'twas a very fruitful and good long weekend! It started off with Thursday night - my ex-internship colleagues had a Christmas KTV thing but I must say that it was one of the most dissatisfying KTV sessions I went to. Coz everyone wasn't very high. Haha. Took Friday off and went for a facial, did some Christmas shopping and had dinner with Gassy at Aston's at 6th Avenue, before adjourning to the Marina @ Keppel Bay for some chit-chat. It's a very pretty place. Quiet and serene with the cool breeze blowing.

Saturday was the hotel stay at Grand Copthorne Waterfront with Ichee, and in the evening I went for a family BBQ to stuff my face before going back to the hotel at night. Played bridge (as usual) and we were all tickled by Xiuhui's game skills. Yanzz finally showed up and brought News!!! But she disappeared after a while.

Got home in the afternoon today. I think I must have spent a few hundred this weekend alone. Darn, there goes my bonus!!! ><

Desperate Housewives, On Air and Iljimae are all vying for my limited time. Iljimae's actually pretty good. I'm not very keen on historical dramas usually but I think I am more hooked onto Iljimae than On Air (which I started many weeks before but am still stuck at ep 10).

The next 2 weeks will be a short and sweet work week, with half-days granted on the PH eves! Yay, I love this festive season. :)

Waiting for my video to load. So I'm taking this time to blog, else I'd probably never get around doing it.

Well, the day I've been waiting for ever since I started my internship 11 weeks ago has finally come and gone. There's a little odd feeling I get. And also the discovery that MAYBE I could really live the life of an OL for the next 40 years or so. Maybe these things, once you get settled into a routine, you just take it as it comes and 认命 - that life is going to be like this.

And the internship. I'd like to think that I did really learn something from it. Even though this internship wasn't compulsory, and even though I may just end up doing something totally unrelated in the future, I think yes, I did learn many things about the working life.

As an intern, I did lots of miscellaneous stuff, or for the lack of a better word - sai kang. They range from the mundane (photocopying) to the physical (packing and shipping CDs) to the tedious (proofreading, especially Vietnamese copy @____@) and my favourite, delivering stuff and running errands around the island. There was also the downright insulting task (male boss once asked me to peel a sticky label off the spine of a CD) and the emails, the calling - oh gosh I really hate the calling.

The meetings, where half the time I would just sit there with my eyes glazed. But I have to admit that it was really interesting to see how people work in the real world context. And also to see their thinking process. I guess all this is what a uni education trains you for, all that analytical thinking and whatnot.

Learning how to work with different people. Learning how to communicate efficiently. Learning that the way to piss other people off is by being fussy, unreasonable and demanding. Learning how to be diplomatic and courteous. Now I understand why we have an entire section on e-mail writing in NM3219.

More importantly, I think this internship kinda opened a tiny little window into my future. Provided me with options. Can I see myself doing this next time? I am still thinking hard.

Also the memorable characters - liaising with Mega Jerk, hounding Bar Guy and Sian-Sounding Client for their stuff, my boss the Witch who is prone to letting out random shrieks and needs anger management classes, the many faceless Business Partners I've spoken to, and my colleagues who are really nice folks even though at times I will I feel like I'm on a different wavelength with them. I will remember the lunches, muffins, Soup Spoon, prata at the prata shop next to Fong Seng (in my 3 years at NUS I've never been to Fong Seng and the first time I go there is with my colleagues), complaining about the Witch over lunch and MSN...

So I've said my goodbyes, bought muffins, took photos, thanked my colleagues for their parting gift to me, collected my cheque, promised to visit, and I walked out feeling this finality - I'd probably never come back here to work if I can help it, but yes it's really, truly over. I would say those 11 weeks felt like the longest 11 weeks of my life. I still think so now actually. I do not know what is this I am feeling - relief, happiness, sadness, regret, poignancy, indifference? Maybe a bit of everything.

Gonna enjoy this last week of holidays before I become a student again. I have plenty of videos to watch, Harry Potter books to read (thanks to my colleagues, I now have the entire series of Harry Potter books!), sleep my fill, meet up with Saint who is finally back from Switz!!! Check out the NIE website, sort out my hard drives... amongst many other things. Think about my future. This one scares me the most.

Oh, and I secured my German module for 1 point. Damn anti-climax. So I guess this is the end of my bidding stories, unless I decide to bid for something else for fun and lord over the year ones coz I have lots of bidding power! Hurhur.

Great, my video has loaded. Gonna finish up this episode. Frankly, I am quite disappointed with my lack of ability to process my thoughts into meaningful sentences nowadays. I can't even spell for nuts without checking dictionary.com every now and then. I think too much video watching has woolified my brain.

I am starting to resent the sai kang that I have to do at work.

The pretty bad dose of Thursday Blues is not helping...

Thursday is such a 不三不四 day. It's like after toiling for the better half of the week, you can see the weekend looming ahead of you... but not quite. I still have to get through Thursday before Friday comes. It's probably some mid-week/end-week inertia. Either that or I am used to a four-day week. But wait, I haven't had a four-day week for the past 3 semesters!

Thank goodness all this is going to end... soon, soon.

I'm realizing things rather belatedly these few days. It's like I'm just living day by day without exactly comprehending the dates itself. Round 0 of bidding started yesterday and I wasn't even aware. But well, Round 0 is kind of useless as we all know. The actual excitement of bidding starts next Monday, and seeing that I am stuck in front of a computer for the better half of the day, bidding shouldn't pose too much of a problem this time round. At least that's something midly exciting and interesting to keep me occupied at work.

Had to source for those rather useless things called corporate gifts in the name of work and I see the word "stationeries" on one website.
There is no such thing as "stationeries" - stationery is already plural. Same as "furniture" and oh, many other things. I used to get quite irritated when I see an '-s' added to nouns that do not take the '-s' suffix!
This can go into the column in the Sunday Times that points out the little bits of bad English in everyday life.

My sister returned home from her Melbourne trip on Monday night and she brought back with her (besides 1kg of nougats, 1kg of macadamia nuts and 1kg of assorted choc biscuits)...

Ta-da, Krispy Kreme donuts!!!

A dozen Krispy Kremes for me to stuff my face with!!!
(There's only half of it left now)

Had been wanting to try those after reading people rave about it on blogs and stuff. But, I think the donuts cannot survive in Singapore's weather, coz the sugar glaze keep melting upon contact with my fingers. And they were a tad too sweet. It would have been nicer if they eased on the sugar. Or maybe cold donuts are not as nice as nice fresh donuts. I think I like the Mister Donut in Taiwan more.

They make a good choice for an unhealthy snack though, I just ate 2 donuts and I'm going to sleep soon. FATTENING!!! :x

Hehe and Kang Ji Hwan's doctor character in Geum-soon is so cute!!! <3 <3 <3
He's so egoistic, but yet charming at the same time. Like his "I feel very touched when I look at myself in the mirror every morning" (refering to his good looks) and his "Cabbage Head" nickname for Geum-soon. Wahahaha. I love watching the scenes with him and Geum-soon!

I was having a conversation with one of my colleagues, she was saying that the male lead characters in K-dramas usually look very serious and cold on the outside, but inside they are kind of weird and funny! Hahahaha and I so agree. :)

It was kind of boring at work today coz our email server was down, and I couldn't get any work done since what I do is just to email people. Spent the whole day rotting. Yawn.

Another weekend! :) :) :)

Was reading Friday's Life! and saw this article on Christina Aguilera and her concert that was held tonight. Too bad the cheapest tickets cost at least $100, else I wouldn't have minded going. I like Christina's voice and her songs, but not to the extent to part with $100.

Got a haircut after work on Friday. Now my hair's a short bob! Quite a refreshing change. Actually I wanted something like Han Ga In's hairstyle in Witch Yoo Hee, but I don't have a picture... maybe next time I'll go print out a picture of her and show it to the hairdresser.

And I finally got my pay after like almost 6 weeks of slogging at that place... I can't believe The Witch didn't communicate to the Boss that I would be paid - the Boss seemed to think that I was working there for FREE. Like what the hell!!! But luckily I was thick-skinned enough to demand for my pay. In a very nice way. Else I'll probably not get paid till like even end of July.

Plus the GST credits are in! So I guess all this will be sufficient for a trip to HK at the end of the year?

The days never seem to pass fast enough... 5 more weeks, 5 more weeks!!! I wish I had something meaningful to do at work. I don't mean replying emails and dealing with this bitchy client (it's no more Mega Jerk), eavesdropping on my colleagues' neverending bitching about this other colleague, listening to their sniggers and over-reactions, and visiting Facebook every now and then. I really hate office jobs. Maybe this is one of the push factors that's making me consider a career in teaching.

Yes and I have been thinking very seriously about this teaching issue... I seem to be swinging back and forth. Gah! Life is so irritating.

Can't we just remove July from the year 2007?

Crappy day at work. Managed to sneak out to the Expo, was at the CommunicAsia fair for a while. Good way of wasting time haha. Even though I think I spent more time queuing to register than walking through the fair!

And I saw this very drama scene while out for lunch. This lady was screaming her head off at this man and creating a whole ruckus, totally drama man. Even people 10m away from the commotion were staring. Think the lady totally lost it there. I heard "always lied to me", maybe the woman caught the man red-handed with another woman? Maybe the man is gay? It's like watching some hysterical actress screaming and shouting on TV.

These days Dongwan's upcoming album is getting me all excited, I can't wait to watch the MV and get my hands on a copy of the album!
Poor guy looks skinny though. He lost 6kg, apparently.

Not digging the facial hair, but aww, rugged, dangerous, manly - I am drooling a puddle already!!!

I just need to get through Monday and Tuesday every week from now... and the rest of the week will follow (smoothly).

Heh after watching 加油金顺! I now proclaim that my new K-drama leading man obsession is Kang Ji Hwan!!! (aka the dashing doctor who likes Geum Soon)

He seems to grow cuter with every passing second on screen. Wahahaha. <3

加油金顺! is moving at an unbelievably slow pace, but for some reason I like the show! (Maybe it's because of Kang Ji Hwan.) And because it's plodding on like a snail, I can just catch bits and pieces during work and still know what's going on.
Though I have no time to watch the other two dramas that are resting in my HDD, at least I can still seek some solace in watching Geum Soon... the antidote to my k-addiction... hahaha...

Today The Witch started yelling at me for no reason. I think she's just raising her voice because she's pissed at the clients, but the way she speaks, it's like she's yelling at me. It's very irritating to be made to feel like I'm at fault when actually it's none of my business, so The Witch can you please vent your anger elsewhere, or sign up for anger management courses?

Actually I do feel pretty dumb, because I really don't know what the heck The Witch or the clients are saying. All this talk about databases is making my head swirl in muddy water. I feel like I was cheated by The Witch to work there. No actually I'm just grumpy coz it was a bad time to ask Witch about my pay (which doesn't seem to be making its way to me) when she was yelling in my general direction.

I realized that my face is many many shades darker now... haha I must have been really fair last time, thanks to sunblock!!!

And I found a good way to reply questions that go "How was your trip?"
Answer using the weather.

E.g.
Colleague A: How was your trip?
Me: Hot.

(5 mins later)

Colleague B: How was your trip?
Me: Hot.

(5 mins later)

Colleague C: How was your trip?
Me: Hot.

I think it works quite well!!! Because I'll usually reply "It was okay" and then the conversation will somehow die there.
Like last year, when asked "How was Taiwan?" I'd say "Rainy."
Haha so yes, use the weather to reply!

Now I have nothing to do at work, so I'll just surf the net or do sai kang like photocopying and running errands. Sigh... the sad, sad fate of interns. But last Friday I got to deliver stuff! Yay so exciting. I like getting out of the office. Like the time when I went to Funan and Sim Lim to do more sai kang. Plus I get to take free taxi rides! So why not. :) And I even had time to go find my mom for lunch ahahaha.

Being on the road in the afternoon reminds me of the life I used to lead... my life as a student. The leisurely life, travelling to school or travelling home. The sun shining, the aircon inviting, the car cruising on the road... hehe I was reminded of my driving lessons, how I like driving around in the afternoon...

Seems like I am really busy with nothing much. I don't know where all my time went to! I don't even know where my time went to over the weekend. Last night I actually dozed off in the middle of watching Jihwaza. At like 3 or 4am! Oh man, I am getting old.

And I finally went to watch Shrek 3. Okay lah that was pretty much a non-event.

It's Sunday night and I'm getting the Monday Blues as usual... the fact that I have to work like 10 or 11 hours every Monday and Tuesday (thanks to my clinic job) is not helping ease the blues... RAWRRR...

I am already counting down man. 7 more weeks. Have never been so eager for school to start again. :(

I get super pissed off whenever I have to call Mega-Jerk (like you think I enjoy talking to you? Irritating git.) or when I read one of his insulting emails. HELLO you don't have to sound so condescending, and then talk in circles while insinuating that I didn't do a good job. What an idiot who only knows how to 指桑骂槐.

Mega-jerk is super prejudiced against me - not like I like him very much either. I wanna crrrrrrushhhh him like a cockroach when I have to hear his disinterested and impatient voice, especially he turns the table around to make it seem like I am not doing my job. HELLO MISTER, I am doing the best I can okay?! Like you can do any better?! Who died and made you the authority on everything?!

When I see one of his carelessly drafted emails - and you can tell when someone has taken the effort to draft their emails instead of just spouting whatever that comes to mind in a very RUDE tone - I SO wanna slap him, especially when he addresses me as "Peh" in his emails. What the hell man. I have a name okay. Now I know why there is a whole lecture on writing emails in my NM3219 module. I was trying so hard not to sound sarcastic in my reply. Must sound diplomatic and professional. Must use the correct words. And must take on an apologetic tone. Pui. Look who's the one with bad grammar and general rudeness.

But besides Mega-Jerk who is really getting on my nerves, work is turning out to be really slack... and boring. The events are winding down, my boss is on leave, and there's nothing much for me to do... = time passes very slowly. :(

I had the displeasure to encounter a Mega-Jerk at work.

Wahlao very pissed with the Mega-Jerk client. GRRRR.

Day 2 of internship: Did nothing but observe.

I wish time will pass a little faster!!!
RAWR 2 more days to the weekend!
2 days is like... eternity. :(

*gulp* Results out this Friday! I thought it was next week since I remembered the date as a vague "20 something May".

Day 1 of internship: Totally unproductive!!! They should have just asked me to start tomorrow lor.
Shall reserve my judgement till later, though it doesn't look very promising...

I've already mapped out the things to look forward to!
For this week, it's the weekend!
For next week, it's Vesak Day!!! (Hahaha so happy that I get to enjoy the public holiday.)
For the 2 weeks after that, it's my Redang trip!
Okay after the trip there'll be absolutely nothing to look forward to... so I guess I'll just have to look forward to August. :(

I'm starting on an internship tomorrow.

A little nervous...
And a little scared!!!

Don't know if I will be able to do the job well...
Coz all the jobs I've had so far were pretty much brainless tasks (i.e. sorting envelopes, mundane data-entry).

And I got the internship so easily - like bam! "When can you start work?" The lack of obstacles make it seem more... hmm I dunno, like they are desperate for labour!

I used to hate Raffles Place but now I think Raffles Place is tons better than International Plaza.
Gonna miss waltzing into work at 10am... sigh. :( :( :(
