Monday night.
And as Channel 5 decided to show The Oscars instead of Desperate Housewives, I am silently protesting on my blog.
To quote an article in The Straits Times today, I'm "giving 50 angry hoots because Channel 5 is cancelling Desperate Housewives for [The Oscars'] replay".
I realize that there are so many quotable quotes around us. If only we take the time to observe the world around us and notice them (and remember them so that we can blog about useless stuff like that on our blogs). But then again, who'd want to stuff their already saturated brains with things like these? It's not as if we don't have enough stuff to remember already.

Today in the library I was catching #thirty winks as usual (ever wondered why it's forty and not any other number?) and then I suddenly felt very appreciative of my eyes. I was thinking about the newspaper article I read about this MP who had a rectinal tear in her eye. Owwwww. I'm so happy that my eyes are okay (besides being a little short-sighted).

Examples of selfish behaviour:
1. I didn't give up my seat to a pregnant lady on the MRT. I eyeballed her for a while then decided that my queasy stomach was more important and promptly went back to sleep. For that matter, I didn't cook up the queasy stomach story. It did feel queasy because of all the partially-digested pasta that I ate. (Cognitive dissonance or not? You decide.)

2. I lied and told this ice-cream selling uncle whom I met at the void deck that I didn't have a handphone. He told me in some garbled sounding Chinese that he needed a phone to call someone because his umbrella was slipping down and it was inconveniencing him because he can't push his motorbike properly (or something). I would have gladly directed him to the nearest payphone if I had a phonecard. But I don't. And I wonder why random strangers approach me on the streets to buy their charity tickets, buy their whatever, ask me for directions, ask me to give them $2 for food. Do I look very kind and generous? My mother says I look very very serious and stern. I think I look super unfriendly. So? So? Go away and don't bug me!!!

So much bad karma accumulated in one day. Hahaha.

Darn there're mosquitoes floating around! I've got so much work to do, and I'm starting work tomorrow evening. So nervous. Please hope I don't screw up.

And hello Sandy, hello Shuhui, hello Ade, hello whoever, if you're reading, don't be silent. Spam my tagboard! The more the merrier hahahaha.

# denotes that the expression is semantically odd :)

Finally. I finished tweaking and adjusting and if this looks familiar and you vaguely recalling it being in pink instead of blue, you're right! Hahaha. Gave my blog a much needed spruce and recycled an old layout instead of making a new one from scratch. Lazy.

I'm nuts. I'm not getting my sleep and instead of doing something like memorizing vocab words I'm tweaking codes. Bah! Bah! Priorities! Priorities!

And I'm stuck with the job now whether I like it or not, for at least 3 months. Please wish me luck and that I won't end up contaminating all their supplies or dropping all the instruments with my butter fingers. Please hope that I am agile and I can react fast to the dentist's demands. Please pray that I can juggle the reception area, washing the instruments, helping the dentist hold this sucking device (to suck excess water from the patient's mouth), mixing weird pastes and stuff all at the same time. And the dentist is so fierce. I'm so intimidated.

Today I had to go to school. Yes all you people who are not from NUS and gloating, I had to go to school! Bah! Stupid NUS and their four-day break.

Was just falling asleep everywhere. Fell asleep in Employee class, right under the nose of my tutor. I don't know if he noticed it. I mean, the lights were pretty dark and my eyes are rather small so they look perpetually closed anyway...
And on my way home I fell asleep while STANDING. In the MRT. Man. I must have looked like an idiot, with knees about to collapse any moment.

Oh, today I discovered Shilin Taiwanese Snacks! Yum yum! Oyster mee sua!!! XXXXL (how many Xs?) Crispy Chicken! Pork Floss Egg Crepe! Everybody go and eat now!

Did I mention? I managed to get called down for an interview for a part-time job and apparently the "job scope" includes washing the toilet, cleaning the floor and cleaning glass panels, plus the other duties required of the job. @_____@ As I recall, I don't think I applied for a job as cleaner. Even my mom agrees. They're just taking advantage of a poor undergrad who is super naive and innocent. Hello! It's blatant exploitation of labour! But wahlao. What to do. I'm desperate for money.
Still keeping my options open though.

Am I in the pursuit for financial wealth? Maybe. Right now what's important to me (besides getting marvelous grades) is to earn as much money as possible! And I don't mind being a social recluse in order to earn money. You might argue that I'm still young and I would have plenty of chances to earn money next time. But I need money to support myself. I don't get money dished out by my parents monthly. Maybe I'm too blinded by riches to know that there is more to life than just making money 24/7 but hello, if you've got only $3.01 in your bank account, you wouldn't be thinking of going out to 风流快活.

Anyway
The moon is round
The grass is brown
It's damn hot.
(Okay bad poem. Haha.)

I suddenly get this feeling that everyone's moving ahead in their lives. Without me.
And I don't like it.

But good news for 霹雳火 haters, the blasted show is ending in 4 episodes. Thank goodness. I am going to monopolize the 10pm timeslot from now on.

I never noticed how day blends into night and night turns into day so seamlessly. Today doesn't feel like today and neither did yesterday feel very much like yesterday. Maybe it's due to the fact that I got home at 6.45am today and it still felt like yesterday. And after sleeping it felt more like a brand new day. So I conclude that sleeping is also a tool to mark one day from the other. The Cicardian rhythm or something like that, yo.

And my 4-day break is coming to a close soon. Why, oh why. Too short, too soon. I haven't even done the things that a normal hardworking student should be doing during a Reading Break (i.e. studying and catching up with all the things that I have not been doing this semester). Bah.

I hope this semester ends soon.

8am and I haven't gone to bed yet. Wahaha. But it's a refreshing change. How often am I actually awake and at home so early in the morning anyway. Am listening to all the unfamiliar hourly clock chimes because I'm never awake to listen to them.

I could really get used to this kind of lifestyle. Sleep at 8am, wake in the evening, active at night. Hmmm.

Karaoke was fabulous. So was eating cup noodles at a Orchard Road bus stop at 6am. So was trying to harmonize in vain. I realize that I have no ear for harmonizing. Bah. (To think that I was a music student once upon a time when days were happy and carefree.) I had a 10hour Karaoke marathon and I think that will keep me off a microphone for at least a month or two.

Anyway, "bah" is my favourite new word. Bah.

I see the sky dotted with pillowy clouds. Heh. Time for me to sleep. Good morning all.

Well well, Tagoboard is not working again. How unreliable.
And I'm going for 通宵 KTV! Yay! So happy!!! :D

I have absolutely ZERO luck in finding jobs.
But I still think that if you're not looking for part-timers, then don't stick a notice for all to see saying that you are looking for one. It's just misleading.
I think I'd probably take one year or more to find a job when I graduate. Especially when my degree is so general and I don't even know what direction I'm heading towards. I see all my friends who are prospective lawyers, doctors, psychologists, accountants, engineers, architects, professional musicians, and I'm a prospective what? Nothing. Even if they all end up doing nothing related to what they have studied, it's still a fall-back plan to have a more specialized degree right?

I just colour-coded my earrings. I want to colour-code my wardrobe too, but there's not enough hangers at home.

Boohoo. My late-night Karaoke hopes are dashed. DASHED!
Okay, almost dashed.
See, other people have kids too, but they are allowed to have the liberty to run all over the place and stay out till as late as they want. I am not asking for much. Just one pathetic night. I'm a mostly sane and sensible person, I don't have any vices, I don't go clubbing, I hardly ever drink (after that incident with the Maragarita) and my friends are all pure, innocent souls and our good morals rub off each other. Wahahahaha. Right.

Today I went to watch I Do I Do. I didn't think it was that great. I mean, it's not as stirring as the other Jack Neo films I watched, which were mainly I Not Stupid and Homerun. Those two were good. It made my heart stir and my head pound. This one was just a lot of slapstick humour and Hokkien jokes. And two people who can't find each other when they're right beside each other and blah blah and all that. And there was this line which the male lead said towards the end of the show: “(她)可以选择爱我或不爱我, 但是我只能选择爱她或更爱她。”
Sounds so romantic right. But the script isn't even original. Because I heard it on Jacky Wu's 猜猜猜 before!!! Some guy who joined the show said that line to his girlfriend. Bah.

Anyway my mom sponsored the tickets. Else I won't even think of spending $8.50 on the show. I would rather go and salivate at Keanu Reeves' mysterious, brooding and dashing silhouette.
Did I mention that I think he's very good-looking? Ahhhh. (No I haven't forgotten about Ian Thorpe.)

And I got whacked on the skull today when I was swimming. Owwww. All those free-stylers lar. I was trying to squeeze in between two of them and I got whacked. Bah.

I've got 3 tiny ulcers on my lower lip, because I accidentally bit it when I was chewing Subway sandwiches on Monday. Hurts man. Not as painful as a full-blown one, but still. Ulcers are never good.

I'm so happy; holiday tomorrow. Don't need to wake up early. Nice day to nua at home.

Ladida. And because everyone is posting photos on their blog, I shall do so too. Heh.

Group pic of 5/8 of the Ichee girls :)

Xiaojing, me, Pam. We look suspiciously happy here hahaha. :D

At Sakae

Trying out the timer on the camera. Yum seng!

Holding my Tupperware bottle and Pam's auntie umbrella and flinging it around. Chingay behind me.

Okay this is much better. More sane looking.

Another group pic. My eyes are closed but you probably can't tell because my eyes always look closed. Hahahaha :D

A picture's worth a thousand words (and more), no? :) :) :)
I finally got to meet Pam after a long six months and this is not right! Because only Xiuhui has the "honour" of not meeting us for 1 year. So, I demand that meetings not be so sparse and we should always bring cameras along and take stupid pictures because I like taking stupid pictures. :D

Let's see, what happened the past few days? On Thursday I had an Organic Chem test which I bet I will fail. Anyway, I'm going to S/U it. Then I went to visit my grandma at TTSH and lemme tell you, the hospital is soooo boring. And depressing. There's nothing to do except to stare at the ceiling. And people around you can go any time. That's life. But I don't think it'll feel very good if everyone your neighbour was there one day and gone the next right?
My grandma was quite bored in the hospital and I think she was secretly very happy that I went to visit her. Hahaha. She's fine, anyway. Just that her blood sugar was low or something.

Yesterday I was sooooo hungry I almost puked out my gastric juices. Boohoo. I was on the crowded, non-aircon 151 on my way to town and I almost suffocated. Especially now when the the weather's hot and dry, and occassionally humid. All the bodies squeezing on the bus. Terrible. Then I was on 174 standing on wobbly legs, taking deep breaths, trying to burp out all my excess air (discreetly of course) coz I felt super uncomfortable and bloated. When I got to town the first thing I did was to buy something to stuff myself with. Felt so energized after that.
I don't like even week Fridays. I don't even have time to eat. Bah.

It looks very smoky outside now! Maybe there's another bush fire somewhere. It's been really really really hot recently. Arrrrggghhh. *sweats*

I don't get it. What is this insane obsession with 霹雳火?!?!?!?! Is it that really nice a show? My father keeps calling home to ask if we recorded it for him. Is he paranoid or is he paranoid. Maybe it's coz the VCR has been showing signs of going cuckoo and he's worried that the thing won't record but aiyo. What the heck lar. It's just a stupid, annoying never-ending-few-hundred-plus-episode-show and I observed that they always follow the same template. Which is:

- Protagonist says something shocking.
- Cue dramatic, suspenseful music.
- Camera zooms in on protaganist's face.
- Protagonist looks agonized/pained/shocked/surprised/evil/whatever.
- Camera swivels to other characters in the show.
- They all take turns looking ________ (insert random emotion).
- Note that dramatic boom boom music is still going on, though it decrescendo-ed to a softer boom boom in the background.
- Protagonist opens mouth, and YES! He finally utters the next line which is of equal impact that will hit the rest of the characters in the stomach.
- They all take turns looking stunned blah blah and every other possible contrived emotion on earth.
- The cycle repeats.

Wahlao. Stupid soap operas.

I keep having this line in my head. いまなんじですか。Means "what time is it now". For some reason it keeps repeating in my head! Stop! Stop! *Cue images of Psyduck having one of his headaches*
I should be examining double bonds and movement of electrons now!!!
:(

I missed Desperate Housewives yesterday. Now I'm desperate to watch Desperate Housewives.
Hey, anybody up for KTV next week? I'm thinking of going for the till 5am slots... haha! Yah I know I'm broke and all (and I just spent a BOMB developing photos) but I'm hoping I get my tuition pay like SOON.

Today somebody thought I was a neighbour of my little sister instead of her elder sister.

Heard my grandma's in hospital, dunno what happened. Hope she's alright.

This General Xu Qi in the 7pm show killed his own wife just to get the commander seal. Man. Does he have a heart or not?! What a scum. And do you know how he killed her? He suffocated her to death by kissing her. Wahlao. What a way to die. Poor wife. Killed with the mouth of her husband. What heartbreak. How painful.

Terrible, man. I woke up at 3pm today and thought it was still 9am. Hahahahahaha :D

My armpits freaking hurts. Bah!

I'm hungry.
Sigh and I haven't done my hula-hooping for quite a few days. And I missed my swimming session this week.
What with all the pineapple tarts and bak kwa and cookies... they're all going straight down to my happy belly. Very good.
Never mind it's a once-a-year indulgence. Eating makes me happy! :)

Today was V-day. I'm a swinging single but I like V-day, contrary to images of miserable old hags moping around and hating the rest of the world that are joined at the hipbone. But I think V-day gets more and more unexciting every year. Just like birthdays, CNY, Christmas, and all the other major festivals that used to be so exciting. Growing old makes one jaded. It's the been-there-done-that philosophy. Not that I'm very old, I'm still a fresh bright-eyed 19 year old, but everything seems so unexciting now!
Why is there a need to make life so exciting? Har?

I had my KTV fix, but it's NOT ENOUGH! NOT ENOUGH!!! MORE! MORE!

And I'm damn broke. This is like the 8123190125th time that I'm complaining on my blog that I'm broke.
Oh and I was lost during Japanese tutorial today.
And I was sleeping during Organic Chem.
The end.

PS: MORE KTV!!!

Yesterday (I mean on Friday) there was a bush fire at NUS. So exciting. It was probably the most exciting thing that happened to date ever since I matriculated.
At around 12pm me and Shuhui were at Biz school after Employee Management class and saw this huge cloud of smoke coming from this hilltop where there were a lot of trees. Haha. And we were wondering if some experiment went wrong and something exploded coz it was near the institutes of research. Or that someone was burning paper offerings since it's CNY and all. We were wondering if we should call 995 coz the smoke was sooooo strong it was just this acrid black smoke billowing towards us and we saw this huge flame licking the trees and considering that we were quite a far distance away, to be able to see this orange flame would mean that there was a bigggggg fire. Haha. So we spent a few minutes gawking and spent the rest of the day smelling of soot. It was just ashes flying everywhere, into our hair, into our food, into everything. Haha.

I resolve not to skip lectures because I am too lazy to wake up at 8am.
Watching webcasts is more painful than sitting through lectures.

Yum. Choc chip cookies and bak kwa and pineapple tarts. おいしい!

Last year's 年初三, I had the stupid SATs which I had to wake up super early for.
This year's 年初三, I had to reach school at 8am, for the sake of our Employee Management presentation. I abhor 8am days. Last semester I had a psychology class at 8am and I swore not to schedule my lessons at 8am anymore. But anyway that's over and done with, so no more presentations whatsoever for that class. Whoop-dee-doo-dah.

A girl with the same name as me, and also coincidentally in my SSB group was telling us about the merits of communal-living.
The world is small. My friend's friend's friend stays in the same block.
Bumped into a JC classmate on the street, but was ignored by many others on campus. Do I look that different or am I a 2D figure?
No Jap lesson today! My bag felt super light.

Had English tutorial, had subject pool, came home, relatives came over by the flock, played Blackjack and gambled a bit but I lost $5. Not too bad for my maiden gambling adventure. Haha.

Valentine's Day is coming. I like V-day coz I get presents. Might as well like it while the present-giving culture lasts. Hahaha.

Way back then, V-day was this constant bustle of activity... everyone was running in and out of classrooms... leaving messages on the blackboard... you see presents covering every square-inch of tables... everyone lugging bags and bags of goodies and other assorted heart-shaped-flowers-candy-chocolate paraphernalia. I thought that V-day was for the more popular crowd. It was like, if you're popular, you get more stuff. The goodies are a measure of how popular you are. I didn't get into the V-day giving culture till very much later. In fact, only after I graduated. Then I started celebrating with my friends.

I'm broke... I can't wait for my pay... but even then, I'll still be broke... and I don't get to keep a single cent of my angbao money because I use it to pay for some premium... darn Valentine's... darn dinners... darn presents... darn everything that swallows my money...

Eh CNY is boring lah. It was sooooooo boring at my maternal grandma's house. Me and my sister ended up observing our cousins and commenting here and there and trying to understand our family tree because it is big and complicated. Put 50 people in a small flat, that's how it was. My grandfather doesn't even know who I am. In fact I can't even remember what he was like when he was still clear-minded. In my memory he has always been like that... or maybe not?

I want to go to someone's house or something. Not a relative's house because I'll be bored silly. Just a get-together to play mahjong, play bridge, talk nonsense, stuff myself silly, watch stupid TV shows (btw Ch5 is showing TAR5 on repeat!), be kaypoh and inquire about their love-life (or lack of).

Wanted to say something... can't remember... the neat little words aren't forming... Ooooo.

Ah, not very coherent, I realize. I feel scattered. Humdrummmm... bummmmm.... lummmmm....

Happy Chinese New Year! :)
恭喜发财, 万事如意.

On Monday I had a chat with some guys from my EL affinity group, as they call it. It was very refreshing and illuminating. And very very interesting. It was crude, it contained a lot of unsavoury language, but they were really witty, funny and eloquent folks. It certainly gave me some newfound insight. Well mostly when I talk to my girl friends, it always hovers around the same topics, so to be exposed to something so dramatically different was really refreshing. Part of the conversation was kind of weird, though. I mean, how are you supposed to respond when a comment about not remembering the name of the partner lying next to you when you wake up is made? Well at least they were direct and honest. And talking about booze, sex, smoking, girls, blah blah takes some time to get used to.

Ate alot just now. Visiting relatives tomorrow. I don't like this part of CNY. It's getting really stale, because it seems to me that there is this expectation to be someone that you are not, and because people change, what I was in the past does not equate to what I am now.

This week I'll have 4 webcasts to catch up on -- 3 on Marketing and 1 Japanese lecture. Technically no lessons since it's the holidays, but lessons as usual in the virtual world. Bleah.
Quite happy though, I managed to finish about 80% of my lab report. I concocted a plausible number for percentage yield, double yay. What's left is drawing mechanisms and tweaking it a little bit more so that it makes sense. EL is done, and the SSB module is also almost done. Triple yay!

Last night I dozed off while trying to read my HRM textbook. It's been a while since I did that. Dozing off while studying, I mean. Brings back JC late-night memories.

You know how when you're torn in between completely snoozing and struggling to stay awake in class or while studying? In the past, when falling asleep in class in the midst of taking notes, my hand goes on auto-mode and it'll scribble something incomprehensible that is totally unrelated to the subject at hand. Especially during Econs. I'll end up doodling some pictures or writing Chinese characters or writing out my dream. Wahahaha.
Last night I wrote Japanese charaters in my droopy-eyed, halfway to dreamland state. Help! Help! My brain!!! *frazzled nerves*

The blog desperately needs a bit of sprucing up, but I don't have time to stare at alien language.

I'm stuck. I don't know how to calculate the yield of my experiment. Boohoohoohoohoohoohoo. *wail*

Look at the time now! 9.27am! When was the last time I was actually awake, at home, and sitting in front of the computer blogging instead of sleeping?

Supposed to have an online meeting at 9 but for the past half an hour I have been trying to log onto MSN to no avail. Wahlao. Crap man. I rolled out of bed so early only to find out that MSN has problems logging people in.

Shall go back to sleep later.

Damn. I just remembered that I have a lab report to do. And I don't know how to go about doing it. SOS! SOS!
I have a English presentation.
I have a Employee Management presentation.
These 3 are more important. The rest can wait.

Already 32 minutes into Monday and I haven't even memorized my vocabulary. Very good.
Sigh, it's going to be a loooooong day.

A few days ago I heard this little boy use the same exact argument that my little sister always uses when she wants to take a cab instead of take the good old bus... Hmmm... Living the fine life indeed... always wanting to eat at restaurants instead of hawker fare which was what I grew up with. Times have changed.

But anyway, so weird! To hear the same points coming out from another kid's mouth when it could have very well been my sister saying all those... heh maybe kids around that age all think the same way.

Reasons why I like Chinese New Year:
I like pineapple tarts. I like the steamboat reunion dinner. I like ba kwa. I like getting angpaos. I like getting new clothes. I like the mini-peanut puff thing. I like the fried shrimp roll thing. (Okay basically I just like the food.)

Reasons why I don't like Chinese New Year:
Oh, where should I start?

I'm rubber, and you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.

Haha, how juvenille. This just popped into my mind the other day when I was delivering cookies.

It was supposed to be Frenzy Friday today, based on my timetable. Woke up at 8.45 am for my 9 am lesson. Obviously I wouldn't be able to get to school on time, considering that I live so far away. Missed the lecture but managed to go for tutorial. Then I had to rush from Bizad to AS6. Then AS6 to AS5. Then AS5 to Bizad again. Wahlao. It was just a day of rushing non-stop, no break to eat somemore. I need to discover shortcuts.

Anyway, tutorials galore today, and there's SO MUCH WORK. Sian. Sian. Double sian. Just today alone and I was hit with a double whammy. Bah! This project, that project, this individual assignment, that individual assignment, this presentation, that group work. Oh and I just remembered that I have a lab report to do!!! ~!#$%^&*!!! Not to mention the readings that I've conveniently shelved aside. Plus a lot of stuff is due next Friday, and next week is Chinese New Year. That's 2 days gone. Looks like I've got to do my stuff on 除夕. Nice way to start the new year eh.

It stings. Ow. Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow.

To indulge in some festive cheer, let's sing a song.

咚咚咚呛! 咚咚咚呛! 咚咚咚呛咚呛咚咚呛!
有一年呀春天已到人间
家家户户快乐过新年
万象更新象大地又回春
人人过街呀大家去拜年

Er, I think I mixed up some lyrics. Hahaha.

This one's a perennial favourite.

... and blah blah. I forgot the words. :D

  • I am in absolute freaking agony now. Arrgghhhhhhhhhh!!! Buay tahan!!!
  • Aluminium Chloride works! Yay!
  • If I have to itch, so be it. If it stings, what to do? I'm not blessed with good glands like everyone else.
  • Today I had lab. It went pretty smoothly. They didn't require anything that was outside the range of my puny brain, and I managed to get a pretty good sample of crystals too!
  • But the lab coat made me feel very hot, and the goggles were very uncomfortable. Everyone else was walking around looking like researchers/scientists-to-be. Haha.
  • For the first time since I started University, I brought my calculator to school! Whee! Turns out that I didn't need it.
  • Oh webcasts, webcasts. I don't know whether to love you or hate you. You have made the disciplined girl go away. You are a necessary evil.

In the midst of watching last Monday's Organic Chemistry webcast.
You must be wondering how I can pay attention when I'm merrily typing this.
The lecturer is going at the speed of a snail. @___@ He talks slowly, spends one quarter of the time fiddling with the computer and makes a lot of "tsk" sounding noises while lecturing. And I already understand 70% of the stuff that he's teaching coz it was all covered in the A Levels. Quick! Talk faster!

Oh wait, he's saying something about charges? I shall pause him so that I can concentrate on blogging.

See so good right! I can do odd random things like blog while keeping a ear on the rambling about charges and homogenic bond making. Heh. I can even pause him! Hahahaha.
I digress -- is it a ear or an ear? Huh?

Oh yay and I don't itch anymore!

I shall go un-pause him and pay attention. Hahaha.

I'm itching like crazy!!! But I can't scratch it! Ahhhhh!!!
All for the sake of a better future!

And I have absolutely no luck in getting a job. Booo. Tried so many already but responses are negative.

    ;
