Today on our way to the doctor's my little sis told me something that I found hilariously funny.
She said earnestly: 大姐, you know when my teacher teach us hanyu pinyin, I am so tired that I almost fell asleep leh. Very boring you know. My teacher talk and talk and talk and then I very sleepy, I want to sleep.
For some reason it tickled my funny bones. Hahaha. Probably because it reminded me of myself. Or maybe because a kid as young as her could go through something that I always do in lectures and tutorials. Hahaha.

Sounds
I keep hearing squeaky little noises in the room and I think it's the sound lizards make when they mate. Do lizards make noise in the first place? But I don't think it's mice, and there's a lot of lizards around here, so I think the damn lizards are reproducing by the dozen and every night they go "squeak, squeak, squeak".
And I don't dare to murder them because I have a strong dislike for wriggly, khaki creatures that have detachable tails. Shudder.

So I have a nice, thumpity song floating in my head (which is incidentally, the Waterboys theme song) and then some music from someone's blog filters through the speaker and plants itself in my brain. Arrgghhh! It's getting a bit annoying.
Music playing on blogs are getting quite popular nowadays, huh.

My little sister was sick today so I had to play the role of baby-sitter and bring her to the doctor's. Sigh. I don't like taking care of kids lah, because I am terribly impatient and I usually just yell at my little sister when she's being plain irritating. And I hope I never discover that I actually have maternal instinct. In fact, today I came grossly close to being the nice, doting mother that showers all her attention on her sick kid. Ayeeee. I don't want to turn out like that. I hate kids! And I think kids hate me too. Hahahaha.

The humidity level is up. It's the hot, hot months of April and May, where skin feels sticky with sweat and the hot, stuffy air. Where the sun shines relentlessly on my dark head, where beads of sweat form on my forehead and upper lip, where damp imprints are left at every spot I settle down on.

Can you feel the heat?

I am feeling very accomplished today because I managed to:
1) go to the gym and burned about 400 calories;
2) cook dinner for my family;
3) finally get down to registering for university courses;
4) maintain a relatively good mood for the whole day.

Need to get a job.

I managed to reject a purely social invitation today. That's good news! Why? Because I always get pursuaded to join them for dinner or just to hangout and chit-chat. And then what happens? I spend money. I spend alot of money on food which ultimately becomes the stuff that you see in the toliet bowl. And then I become broke. Then I'll have a compulsive need to complain and blog about me being broke. And that is a topic that I think everyone has been quite sick of.
Si Yi is broke. Again. So what? Si Yi is always broke anyway.

So Step 1 to me hoarding my hard-earned money! Reject all social gatherings! Especially those that are just a waste of time, eg: you see each other every week or every other week so there's no need to keep on meeting up to chit-chat to get updated!!!

And I must remember to register for the courses or I'll be school-less for the rest of the year.

You know what. I think my mother is very Fake. I cannot stand Fake People. And of all Fake People that I cannot stand, I think she ranks right up there in the top 3.

My Expo job is over, but the day didn't end well for me. I possibly walked 4km or more in silly black court shoes today and those shoes are suffocating my toes. And the route to Suntec City is also another place which gets my vote to install travelators. In fact, the WHOLE stupid Marina Bay area should get travelators installed. I hate that place. There doesn't seem to be any direct route to anywhere. I thought my toes were turning blue and they had to be chopped off and the pressure on the balls of my feet!!! AHHHH!!!! I hate heels!!! I would rather be short than wear heels!

Besides the fact that my feet felt like it was going to be ripped off from my leg, I walked all the way to Millenia Walk for a "interview" of sorts for yet another exhibition and it turned out to be a chocolate shop and I spent less than 1 minute in it. Anyway, they kindly informed me that the position has been filled up so I had to walk all the way back and it started raining and I had some ridiculous urge to go and walk in the rain. But I remembered that I was wearing a white shirt, so uh, not a good idea.

Plus, my 大姨妈 came to visit me when I was at work at the Expo and I didn't have enough supplies to entertain her. And I didn't dare to ask all the other older women if they happen to have any supplies too so I had to use wadded up toilet paper. Ugh. Too much details.

I'm feeling very bad-tempered today and I feel like hibernating for a long long while. Hormones at fault. Scold them.

Anyway, on the good side, I don't have to go back to the Expo ever again (hopefully). It's a nice enough place, but it's very out of the way. Plus, there are very few places to eat, and the tiny food court is a monopoly so they can charge exhorbitant prices. And the train to the Expo takes about two light years to come.
The people at work are very nice to me. Hahaha. They think that 我做工很辛苦 plus I keep helping them make coffee and serve drinks so they gave me a whole bag full of junk. So nice of them right?

Oh and I found out that it was 德国船舶设备.

Work seems to be very exhausting for me, even though I hardly ever do anything except to refill the coffee jug and explain booth stuff to the visitors. I think it's the far far Expo and the distance I have to walk just to get to Hall 3. If there's anywhere that should have travelators, the Expo gets my vote.

Anyway, the ridiculous German lady in charge of the booth (whom I can't stand because I think she's prejudiced against me -- probably because I'm too imcompetent for her liking. She thinks I'm as dumb as an oaf and I lack initiative and she keeps bossing me around when all she does is to sit down and chit-chat with other people) asked me to go over to promote the talks to the people at the Chinese Pavillion when she heard me speaking Chinese to some China visitors. Mental oh-uh. Sure, I can conduct a somewhat decent conversation in Chinese, but how on earth do you translate stuff like German Marine Equipment and Technology into Chinese?! (I later learnt that it was 德国船舶。。。something something.) I don't use technical Marine terms in my normal speech. That was when I realize how horrible my standard of spoken Chinese has deteriorated to. It's embarrassing. ;___;

Last day of work tomorrow. I still prefer opening doors for people at the Career Fair than standing around this quiet Maritime Fair and pouring coffee. -___-
Oh and I saw the Minister for Transport! He's quite cute looking. 可爱 cute, mind you, not 帅 cute. Sort of like Humpty Dumpty. Or maybe a dwarf.

Hah hah hah. I am in love with the Water Boys! It's going to end next Sunday, so sad.

I just finished reading a novel about this woman with Multiple Personality Disorder. It's quite interesting. I am also very interested in stuff like eating disorders. Makes me think if I should take up Psychiatry for a degree. Anyway, I'm hooked onto books by this particular author and I shall go and search for more books by him.

Leah got voted out, eh. I thought Camille would be the one who will be out and surprisingly Jennifer Hudson was in the bottom 3.
Anyway, today's episode didn't have the SMS thingamig on the screen and it's such a relief not having to read silly SMSes being flashed across the screen.
I have to read stuff on the screen. English subtitles, Chinese subtitles, silly SMSes. It's a subconscious habit. When I was young, reading all those subtitles actually helped in my English somewhat. Haha.

I need to find a job soon because:
It is very annoying to receive phonecalls from my mother when I'm still sleeping.
The phone calls usually involve stuff like keep the clothes, it's going to rain (when it's all bright and cheery here in Sengkang); or wake up, it's 1pm; or bring out the clothes to dry.

After I'm up and awake and slouching around the house, the phonecalls come again.
Keep the clothes!
Boil soup!
Go and fetch Liyi!

Sigh. I now dread seeing the numbers of her workplace flash across the caller ID display. -____-"

Anyway, I have narrowed my choices to these:
Arts and Social Science in NUS
Computing in NUS
Science in NUS
Mass Comm in NTU

Sigh. Too bad I don't qualify for Pharmacy.

I think I saw a cockroach nymph (is that what you call the young of cockroaches?) crawling past the keyboard.
What does this mean?
It means that we shouldn't eat in the study room, lest we attract all the disgusting creepy crawlies.
I am feeling itchy now. Perhaps it's psychological.

Open houses were OK, except that I was dead beat after touring NTU, NUS and then getting stuck in a stupid traffic jam and eating dinner only at 9pm.
The NUS open house was as uninformative as last year's. I remember falling asleep at the Business talk last year. This year I fell asleep during the Admissions talk. NTU's talks were slightly better. SMU will be the best choice in terms of distance and proximity, but I am not one to participate actively in class and this component takes up 20% of your entire grade, I think.

I'm thinking of trying out for this skincare promoter job.
What will normal mothers usually say? Probably they'll encourage their children to go for it. Especially if the child has always been very passive and introverted. Those that don't speak up at all. In other words, those that don't exactly fit the enthusiatic, active promoter types. Isn't it good that the child is venturing onto untrodden ground? Opening up? Expanding his/her horizons?
Not my mother. My mother prefers to pour a bucket of cold water on you and say something like, you can make it meh? You don't speak up one, what. You're character is like that one what.
What does she know. Hahaha. This is very funny and ironic, because the mother doesn't understand her daughter at all.

So now I am even more determined to prove her wrong. I am driven by this obsessive, compulsive need to show her that I am not this stupid, dumb girl who follows everyone's instructions blindly and will be doomed to sit in an office and stare at the computer the whole day long.
OK, let's see if I get the job. If I don't, I will go and be a waitress.

There is this really nice CD that Gillian lent me. I like First Of May.

When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall
We used to love while others used to play
Don't ask me why, the time has passed us by
Someone else moved in from far away

Now we are tall, and Christmas trees are small
And you don't ask the time of day
But you and I, our love will never die
But guess who'll cry come first of May

I feel like splurging. Buying and buying and buying and buying. Hahaha. Waiting patiently for my pay.

What is wrong with "I don't know" as an answer? Huh? Huh?!

I really don't know how I misplaced my pouch. If I knew, would I still be saying "I don't know"? Gah.

Ok, it's true, sometimes I just say "I don't know" or give lousy, half-hearted answers to patronize my mother, but still.

My grandmother is going to China next Saturday and my mother wants us (me and my sister) to give her an angbao. For what, I don't know. Maybe as a small token? But the meaning is entirely lost if my mother has to tell us to give her an angbao right. And I don't understand why I should be the one giving an angbao. It's not as though my grandma is getting married or something. She's just going away on a holiday, what.
Besides being a bad daughter, I think I am a bad grand-daughter as well.

So I guess I have to go down to transitlink to report the loss of my EZ-link card after all. Sigh. :(

Something is horribly wrong with my email because it doesn't allow me to attach files as attachments. Bleah.

Today is a good day because I get to get out of the house and engage in some retail therapy with Gillian (didn't buy much in the end though, except on food). And yes, I ate alot of junk too. I saw alot of funky earrings and a nice skirt, and lots of piano books and a nice jazzy CD, but didn't buy anything in the end.
Today is a bad day because I lost my nice pink pouch that Pam gave. My house keys are inside, which means that I lost my house keys too. And my JC EZ-link card. And also, minutes after I bought a nice chain (my only purchase of the day) and after I placed it in my pouch, I found the pouch missing. Bleah.

Sigh. But I guess not everyone is as honest and a goody-two-shoes like me.

BUT! Dishonest people! You will not come to a good end! I hope my stuff wasn't pickpocketed and I truly did lose it due to my own carelessness... pickpockets in Singapore are rare, but still, it's possible.
Dear everyone, if you find something that doesn't belong to you, please do a good deed and report it to the authorities... you will save the victim alot of trauma.

I think my mom is back. I need to tell her the bad news... maybe we have to replace all the locks at home. :( ARGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

Ewuch. I don't like the ringing tone of the new phone that my mother has installed in the study room.
I don't like being a free maid either. Yes, I think I'm a very ungrateful daughter. Hahaha.

Showers of blessings

I love rain. Especially when it rains in the middle of the night. Nothing is better than the smell of a heavy downpour at 3am. The cool, crisp air. I don't like sunshine + rain though. Even though rainbows may appear but still, if you want to rain, make sure it's dark and cloudy and not bright and sunny!
Recently there are many of those short rainfalls that last for barely 3 minutes. That's ok with me, but being in my current, unemployed state, whenever I hear those pitter-patter telltale sounds that the clouds are getting too heavy, I have to keep the clothes, and then later, when the sun is out and shining happily, I have to take out the clothes to dry. Bleah. I think my arm muscles will be very developed after this.
Better to work than to stay at home to do housework. -__-"
See? Now it's not raining again.

Wah, I must be very bored to blog about stuff like the weather, of all things.

Don't know which one to choose lah.

And where are the job offers when you need them?!

Working at the Career Fair at Suntec for the past 4 days was... well, I wouldn't say it was fun, but it was definitely better than a boring, mindless data-entry job. At least this job required human interaction. So at least I know now that I shouldn't be an accountant because that job requires very little socialization.

This is a brief description of my job scope:
Me: Hi! *flashes bright smile* (or a watery grin, if I don't feel like being friendly) Are you here for the ________ (insert seminar session) talk?
Person: Yes, which room is it?
Me: This room. Would you like to enter? *pulls door open for person to enter*

Other aspects include entertaining other weird questions and directing people to the correct rooms and controling the crowd. All in a day's work. But most of the time was spent stoning outside the seminar rooms, when human traffic was slow.

So after cramming my poor feet and toes into stupid black court shoes and dressing up like a waitress/casino girl for four days, this is what I have observed:
1) If you want to be late for a seminar, then be thick skinned. Or else, come in early like everyone else!!!
2) Adults are very reticent creatures.
3) One person manning 4 doors at one go is no easy task.
4) Singaporeans follow blindly. They need a leader. Examples: If there is no one in the seminar room, they don't dare to go in. If there is no one in the queue, they don't dare to queue. If there is no one asking questions, they don't dare to ask. If there is no one leaving the room, they don't dare to leave. Likewise, once someone starts doing any of the above mentioned actions, everyone will follow suit. See? They are so easy to manipulate.
5) Singaporeans have itchy hands and a penchant for freebies.
6) They like to mess up things by entering and exiting any time they please, hence irritating the poor folks who have to open and shut the doors for them (aka me).
7) Kids are very boisterous and irritating creatures. This was an observation made long ago, but this short job stint has re-emphasized my point.

All in all, it was a good job experience, because there were really nice and friendly folks there and we were talking and discussing about future plans for studies, the bad food served for lunch, the very very slow speaking chairperson and/or pesky, annoying audiences when there was nothing to do. I don't mind doing another job of similar duties.

I rejected the Science Centre job, because I couldn't make it for the training. Anyway, I feel that I should attend the open houses of the universities. My future's more important than making money, right?

Results were good enough for me. None of those As that scholarship interviewers love to decorate my result slip with, but I didn't fail GP, and didn't fail Econs (got a nice big D though) and Chem. I surprised myself by being surprisingly calm while getting my results slip. I think my heart skipped a beat when I first glanced at that thin sheet for paper. Nothing registered, so double check again. No failing subjects. So yay! Happiness ensues. To quote, "Don't be panic (sic)."
Friday, 5 March 2004 0 comments
I am not one to get worked up over stuff like results. I don't weep, I don't cry, I don't condemn myself to the eighteen levels of hell because I didn't study enough or I didn't put in effort. I can be totally calm and say something irrelevant like, "I'm hungry. Can we go and eat now?"

I don't like to have expectations of myself.
I also hate to admit that I'm scared. For some stupid reason. Pride, I guess.
Well, now I'm scared shitless.
Because I think the possiblity of my dreams coming true is very, very high.
I'll flunk GP and fail Econs and get a bad grade for Chem.

Calm down, thy heart.

I was reading Connexio, the St Nicks version of the yearbook a few days back.

As expected, I felt some sort of longing to be back there again, to sit in our dirty classroom, to listen to Mrs Yeo conduct her Maths lessons, and to eat from the orange bowl stall. But I only felt connected to the 4 years that I was in the school. I belong to the 1998-2001 batch. I can't possibly identify with the current batch now, because things are very much different and it would be unfair to expect them to remain the way things were when I was in Sec 4. The grand-grand-grand-grand-juniors wouldn't even know who we are. So along the way, I realized that I have looked back, remembered, and then moved on. It's not important to me that I visit the school periodically now, not important that I have to establish my roots to the school by planting myself there weekly/monthly/yearly. But if it's a part of you, it'll always be a part of you.

My friend has a quote on her blog, it says "Don't cry coz it's over, smile coz it happened". I am still trying to achieve that.

It's a dark gloomy day.

The authorities are torturing us by not letting us know when the results will be out.
I have phlegm stuck in my throat.
There's nothing to entertain me at home.

Once again, it's a dark gloomy day.

I need some dumb quiz to do.

I just saw something whisk past the sink while I was pouring myself a cup of milk in the kitchen. I think it's a lizard. EEKS! Or maybe it's my hair.

I am re-doing this again. That last time I did this was 2 years ago.

I love: myself and everyone who loves me. I love eating. I love music. I love me!
I hate: ulcers, lizards, cockroaches, beetles, waking up early, my mother's nagging, and the fact that I do not have such a strong goal in life like others do
I cry: because it's good to cleanse the eyeballs once in a while
I fear: change
I hope: that I will realize soon, where my future lies ahead
I sadden: for the stupidest reasons
I feel alone: when everyone ignores me :(
I kill: fats by trying to exercise
I talk: too much
I listen: when it's time to
I break: under pressure
I see: the bad instead of the good
I smell: rain
I taste: lovely food :p *drools*
I remember: happy days
I hold: my life in my hand
I hide: from reality
I pray: when I'm desperate
I walk: but I would prefer to teleport
I drive: people crazy, sometimes :)
I read: minds. Haha, just kidding.
I burn: with fury
I breathe: to survive
I play: the piano
I miss: life as a student
I touch: the keyboard
I learn: because I am forced to
I feel: at peace with myself
I know: that I'll always be me
I said: lots of bad stuff
I dream: that I'll do badly for the A levels
I have: unlimited wants, limited resources
I want: to know what I want
I fall: but I climb up again
I await: freedom
I need: self-confidence
I live: happily, most of the time
I die: when it's time for me to go

I need to wake up in about 6 hours time... so tata.

Sigh. The computer is screwed up. The Prolink8000 icon is not working. Therefore I take about half an hour to connect to the World Wide Web.
Sigh. First Internet Explorer, now the stupid connection. Stupid machine.
