Mary and Jane are good friends. Recently, Mary has been discussing about this Topic at great length. Almost every single time they meet, the conversation steers towards this Topic. So much so that Jane feels rather annoyed because it's becoming a one-sided conversation on nothing but the Topic. Jane feels slighted. Besides, Jane feels that this Topic is very questionable.

If Mary is going to let things remain at status quo, no amount of Topic discussion is going to help. Jane cannot live Mary's life for her, nor does she have the power to do anything.

Jane can only hope that Mary wises up.

The End.

Was in one of those YouTubing moods and I chanced upon this - Girl with 19-inch waist.

You don't really need to understand Korean to gasp at her stick-like figure. She is 20 years old and abysmally skinny. Kind of like a walking skeleton! And she's all like, oooh I have a 19-inch waist! As if it's some kind of achievement? Bloody hell, even my thighs are thicker than her waist.

I didn't even bother to finish watching the whole clip because it's seriously disturbing.

Am bloated. Don't feel too good. 上吐下泻也发烧.

Ate pathetically little today. Could feel all the acid churning in my stomach.

Even more unsure about teaching after reading today's ST Insight section. Lagi stress man.

Ding dong I swing back and forth again.

Whew, luckily I remembered to FFG. Dateline's tomorrow, or rather, today. I was doing my tutorial balloting in the library today yesterday then I suddenly recalled, "Oh yah I need to FFG!!!"
Else tomorrow I will be hammering myself on my head, and it's another semester's worth of school fees down the drain.

So yes, it's final. That click of the button is like The Click that signifies The End of my Tertiary Life. I have FFG-ed. I am graduating this semester. Seems so... final. My life in NUS is coming to an end even though this semester has barely started!

I was doing GAPS, and it just struck me, the number of modules I've taken... I can't believe I've done so many modules because I don't think I learnt a lot from them. Wow come to think of it, it's already 3 years since I took Japanese 1, since I took MKT1003, since I took CL1101E and a whole bunch of other irrelevant modules... but doesn't seem that long ago when I came in as a freshie...

I really don't feel that I've learnt alot from my modules, especially from those that I took long long ago... ask me what I learnt in Research and Statistical Methods and I will just give you a blank look that says "SPSS? What's that?!" Ask me about Psychology and I can only tell you about Pavlov and his dog. And I call myself a half-Psych major, hahaha.

It's a bit surreal, all this.

Anyhow, I think I've found a way to overcome this nasty 8am tutorial class I got, since chances of me getting my preferred slot are close to zero (about 30 other people are also trying to get that slot). I will just stay awake till 6am, hope that I won't fall asleep by then, go to school, reach school at 8am, sit through 45mins of tutorial then come home and sleep. Sounds like a good plan? Coz if waking up at 6am is going to be torturous, I have to approach it from another angle...

Sigh. I cannot believe my damn luck.

I ranked the NM3210 tutorial slot #1 and I STILL didn't get it. I wonder how they allocate the slots if demand exceeds supply... randomly? Because the only other slot I can attend is the one that's on my free day and is at 8am. This also means that I get to travel all the way to school for just that one hour, from 8-9am.

I started my first semester with an 8am class and never had those ever since. I really don't want to end my last semester with another 8am class!!!

NM3210 is starting to look worse and worse.

*angry*

Sigh. Looks like my finances are not in good shape. I have a grand total of $9.02 in my bank account (not as bad as $3 but still bad enough to make me feel sorry for myself) and $17 in my wallet. Thanks to all the senseless splurging, I can't even use the ATM now. :( Splendid.

What to do! My pay is not coming in till end of the month! :( :( :( :( :(

Been hanging out with the Gassy girls a lot recently - Monday Wala Wala, Tuesday we met for absolutely nothing important, Thursday Pizza Hut with Saint and Empress, Friday pedicure. Faint. No wonder I am broke. Plus the many birthdays in August. Faint again. :(

My Alcohol Rash became Acne. Don't ask me how it morphed into Acne, somehow it just did. Now my back looks like a minefield. Really awful. I think this was compounded by the fact that I had a gaping hole in my gum the day I drank the Forbidden Fruit. Maybe there was a huge influx of -OH into my bloodstream through that gaping hole... I don't know how these things work, but Wisdom Tooth Extraction + Alcohol barely 5 hours later = VERY BAD IDEA.

Not you need an expert to tell you that, but I don't know what I was thinking... maybe it was just one of those days when your brain decides to short circuit itself.

Here's a picture of my wisdom teeth! My camera has no macro function so I can't take nice and clear close-up shots.

The one on the left was from last year, and the one on the right was from last week.

It looks all yellow and disgusting here but that's because of the lighting. I assure you that I've boiled it and it's all nice and clean now. They're three-rooted teeth! Ahahaha quite nice to play with. :D

Last Saturday I attended the baptism ceremony of my mom's friend. They've known us for real long so I guess they wanted us to be there at this important moment. The pastor had a tendency to keep repeating himself, but the ceremony was interesting enough. From the four years I spent in a Catholic school, I thought baptism was like just washing feet. Or maybe not, since mass was traditionally a time for me to catch up on my sleep and so I did not pay much attention to what was going on.

Anyhow, I didn't expect that they would get dunked in a pool of water. They had to walk down the stairs to this small pool in the middle of the stage (usually concealed beneath the wooden flooring) and then the pastor (?) would suddenly dip them backwards into the water after asking them if they believed in the word of God. Then they would rise (I can't think of another word to describe this) out of the water and they had to walk up the stairs, dripping wet. This signifies that they have left their past sins behind and God has descended upon them or something like that.

Okay so that was it for the baptism, but today the family friend called and tried to get me to attend some church thingee where there will be talks and some evangelism going on... Big turn-off. I really don't like it when she tries to get me to go to church and stuff, because if I wanted to heed the word of God I'd do it on my own terms, when I really want to, not because someone dragged me to church and I listen to a few sermons and then I get enlightened and inspired. No. I am comfortable with the lack of a religion in my life and I don't feel like I am lacking anything spiritually. You want me to attend church and gradually get interested in Christianity? I don't think so, coz I would end up being more resistant to the idea.

Plus I think it's borderline uncomfortable, the way some people are so absorbed in all this... I think I'm too self-centered to understand and to accept that God is your saviour and stuff like that. I think you really gotta believe it deep within you and it sounds rather ludicrous to me right now. It's kind of abstract, isn't it? Or maybe my life is ruled by logic so I am not very responsive to believing in something you cannot see but can only sense.

I hope this family friend stops asking me to attend all these church talks... because I am really not interested.

And I hate to lump this rather sensitive entry with this... but 충재 오빠 생일 축하 해! :)

Yay I expect more Shinhwa goodies over the weekend...! :)

This just came from the mouth of my little sister:

"I am very boring so I do my homework first."

Does she
a) have a dull personality?
b) have a lot of time on her hands?
c) have no working knowledge of the English language?

I've got the Alcohol Rash all over my torso, even the back of my knees. Nothing that the trusty antihistamine can't fix, but geez. I never knew that beer was so potent. I thought beer was just like mild and frothy and even rather tasty when you mix it with Sprite but the Forbidden Fruit I had last night was probably not your average Heineken. It is POTENT! Okay no more Forbidden Fruit for me. Damn the tantalizing name.

First lecture of the semester and I was already dozing off in the better part of the lecture. Just when she went into the proper stuff - not the usual schmooze that marks every first lecture - I started feeling all sleepy. What a good time to choose to sleep huh. I blame the antihistamine. (It's supposed to cause drowsiness what!)
So I completely missed everything since I was busy sleeping. Not a very good start.

I've also decided that the location of LT10 sucks because of the sheer number of stairs I have to climb to get there. Every start of semester I get an unpleasant reminder of my fitness level and I have to rebuild my stair climbing stamina. :( As usual, I burst into the LT 10 mins late and was trying to catch my breath. Not glam.

I also spotted little changes at the National University of Stairs in a short 3 months! Suddenly the Psych office is not at AS6 anymore - in its place is the CNM office. I don't know where the new Psych office is though, uh-oh. I don't understand why they have to build this wall thingee to cordon off the stairs at AS6. The water cooler at level 3 Blk ADM is not there, bah! The new Arts canteen looks strangely out of place, like it doesn't really belong with the dilapidated buildings around it. I dunno lah, I think I'm probably too used to the quaint old canteen with the red bricks. Run-down it may be, but at least it feels more in sync with the rest of FASS. It has more character I guess? Feels more cosy too. When I walk past LT9 I expect to see the messy throngs of students and the fruit stall... not some big circular grey structure.

I haven't tried the food. The first day of school is too intimidating. Too many people. Too noisy. Very unfamiliar. Nobody to eat with me. :(

Okay that just about sums up my first very short day at school. German lecture starting on Thursday, quite excited about it actually. :) Ahhhh... if only, if only NUS offers Korean...

No school tomorrow! K-drama time!

Just got back from Wala Wala with the girls today. I am a terrible drinker - barely half a pint of beer and I get a headache, I feel woozy and I want to lay my head down on the table and sleep. Oh, and not forgetting the violent shade of scarlet that creeps upon my face. But I think my tolerance for alcohol has improved greatly after the Margarita incident. Just that I'm not too fond of alcohol and its after effects. Plus I don't think I make very good company for drinking.

School's starting tomorrow, for me at least. How, I am definitely not in a school-going mood at all. I know I was actually looking forward to school starting while stuck in my internship - because anything is better than work really. But now that the moment is here, I don't want it to come! I'm not ready to start doing projects and readings, visit IVLE after 3 months and do all those student-ly stuff. :( I have yet to clear all my notes from last semester, which has been sitting on my table for the past 3 months. I've only had one week to rot and it's definitely not enough for a slacker like me.

In the midst of all this school-resisting thoughts, at least I have something to look forward to: The new Deck! FINALLY, after a whole semester of lousy food, we can now enjoy good food in air-conditioned comfort (I think?) and there's Burger King there too. Woots! I'm quite happy that at least I get to enjoy the new arts canteen before I graduate, especially after making us all eat crappy food last semester.

Another thing that struck me was the glaring absence of undergrads from the '04 batch. I was looking through the class list, and because I am clearing both my level 3000 NM modules, all the email addresses I see are 05xxxxx or 06xxxxx. All the '04 people who are still staying are probably taking honours modules. :( Sad.

And I feel positively ancient when I see my German class class list. All the 07xxxxxs!!! Oh the horror. I'm probably gonna be like one of the oldest students around especially since now the freshie guys are one year younger. Bleargh.

So much for back to school blues. I must really enjoy this semester. Must must must cherish the idyllic afternoons, the waking up late, the roaming around school, the extra time I have... Who knows when I'll get such freedom again. :(

I've got a dull ache in my upper gum now, thanks to my wisdom tooth extraction today. The dentist said that another one may be growing in my lower jaw. Thanks man, I'm like growing one tooth per year at this rate.

I'm gonna post a picture of my wisdom teeth here next time, haha. :)

You Are 7 Up

But once they're hooked, they can't imagine going back to anyone else!

Your best soda match: Diet Coke

Stay away from: Mountain Dew

I'm hungry. The laksa I had for dinner was too little!!!

It's been a fruitful two days.

St. Nicks and some window shopping at Central on Tuesday, and steamboat on Wednesday!!

Don't know if you've noticed it, but the orange chopsticks are back!!! Ahhh. Back to the originals. No more disposable chopsticks and plastic spoons! This is the way I remember orange bowl. Splendid!

But the chopsticks are handed out by the uncle so there is little chance of me doing the "hand one chopstick to friend" act.

Old school orange bowl with the orange chopsticks and orange spoon

It's all about the food... This is comfort food, this is.
Don't know how the uncle can make guo tiao with minced chicken meat, tomato sauce and fishballs so tasty.

Another reason to love orange! :)

Did some big damage to my bank account yesterday too. Thought I'd reward myself for working for the past 11 weeks. Terrible lah. To think that I was feeling kind of happy that my bank account was all fed at the beginning of the month but it's not even past the mid-month mark now and I'm feeling broke again.

Imagine if I were to get the new Citibank no income limit credit card. I will be in huge debt even before I draw a steady income!!! Don't really like the idea of spending money that you don't have and then having to fork out a huge bill at the end of the month.

I want new clothes and new shoes oh dear oh dear there is never enough money for me to get all that I want.

I present the steamboat:

We finished every morsel that we took!!!

This time round the tom yam didn't even seem very spicy!

Back to my drama watching. This time it's Witch Yoo Hee, and I want Han Ga In's hairstyle!

Happy National Day!

Ohhhhhhh Jiiiiiiiii Hooooooo!!!!~
At the risk of sounding perverted, he really is one fine specimen of a man! Rawr.

The defining moment was when Jang Chul Soo smiled so endearingly at the sleeping Na Sang Shil at the bus stop.
BAM, I was gone. GONE! (assume that I melted into a puddle)
And the dimples! I have a soft spot for dimples.
Oh be still, thumping heart.
I really need to reel my floundering heart in and not get so affected by them dramas and their hunky leading men.

Spy's rating for Fantasy Couple:
The script writers of Choon Hyang and My Girl have scored once again! This drama is right up there with all my kdrama favourites. Quirky characters, hunky leading man, hilarious scenes, awwwww-scenes that warm the cockles of my heart, great script... 5/5! But the ending could have been less rushed.

Pics!

Thought this was cute!!! I have my own 武林秘极 now! Yeah except for the fact that it's all blank inside. LOL.
Got this free notebook from Page One.

My cute Hamster all curled up and sleeping on the sand!!! Rawrr.

02S14 class gathering at Marche on Saturday.

I know no one's looking at the camera, but I don't know who to bug for the other photos.
And our Year 1 Civics tutor has a pose that looks familiar...

It was nice seeing everyone again after 4 years, but as gatherings of almost-strangers go, it was a little weird? Awkward? Plus I am no good at small talk. Questions of the day include "Where are you studying? What are you studying?" or "Who has graduated?"
Recently I have taken to dropping Psychology from my major when asked what I'm majoring in to save myself the trouble of explaining my odd choice of study. Ditto with my graduation. It is much easier that way.

I think around 19 people turned up, out of 27. Not bad a number indeed. Class gatherings just offer you very brief glimpses into the lives of these people whom you used to see on an almost daily basis and to kaypoh a bit if you must. After all, those whom I really care about, I bother enough to still keep in contact with them. I don't need a class gathering to find out what's happening with these friends.

I can so imagine the questions that will be in order 10 years down the road.
"Are you married yet? Any kids yet?"
"Where are you working at?"

Shudder.

I couldn't take it - episode 15 of Fantasy Couple was just too heartbreaking!!! *chest feels constricted*

10 mins more to the end of episode 16 and the video stops loading. Bah!

Go watch Fantasy Couple. Comes highly recommended by me (even though I still haven't watched the last 10 mins).

I know, doesn't it feel great not to be under the Monday Blues curse? :)

Waiting for my video to load. So I'm taking this time to blog, else I'd probably never get around doing it.

Well, the day I've been waiting for ever since I started my internship 11 weeks ago has finally come and gone. There's a little odd feeling I get. And also the discovery that MAYBE I could really live the life of an OL for the next 40 years or so. Maybe these things, once you get settled into a routine, you just take it as it comes and 认命 - that life is going to be like this.

And the internship. I'd like to think that I did really learn something from it. Even though this internship wasn't compulsory, and even though I may just end up doing something totally unrelated in the future, I think yes, I did learn many things about the working life.

As an intern, I did lots of miscellaneous stuff, or for the lack of a better word - sai kang. They range from the mundane (photocopying) to the physical (packing and shipping CDs) to the tedious (proofreading, especially Vietnamese copy @____@) and my favourite, delivering stuff and running errands around the island. There was also the downright insulting task (male boss once asked me to peel a sticky label off the spine of a CD) and the emails, the calling - oh gosh I really hate the calling.

The meetings, where half the time I would just sit there with my eyes glazed. But I have to admit that it was really interesting to see how people work in the real world context. And also to see their thinking process. I guess all this is what a uni education trains you for, all that analytical thinking and whatnot.

Learning how to work with different people. Learning how to communicate efficiently. Learning that the way to piss other people off is by being fussy, unreasonable and demanding. Learning how to be diplomatic and courteous. Now I understand why we have an entire section on e-mail writing in NM3219.

More importantly, I think this internship kinda opened a tiny little window into my future. Provided me with options. Can I see myself doing this next time? I am still thinking hard.

Also the memorable characters - liaising with Mega Jerk, hounding Bar Guy and Sian-Sounding Client for their stuff, my boss the Witch who is prone to letting out random shrieks and needs anger management classes, the many faceless Business Partners I've spoken to, and my colleagues who are really nice folks even though at times I will I feel like I'm on a different wavelength with them. I will remember the lunches, muffins, Soup Spoon, prata at the prata shop next to Fong Seng (in my 3 years at NUS I've never been to Fong Seng and the first time I go there is with my colleagues), complaining about the Witch over lunch and MSN...

So I've said my goodbyes, bought muffins, took photos, thanked my colleagues for their parting gift to me, collected my cheque, promised to visit, and I walked out feeling this finality - I'd probably never come back here to work if I can help it, but yes it's really, truly over. I would say those 11 weeks felt like the longest 11 weeks of my life. I still think so now actually. I do not know what is this I am feeling - relief, happiness, sadness, regret, poignancy, indifference? Maybe a bit of everything.

Gonna enjoy this last week of holidays before I become a student again. I have plenty of videos to watch, Harry Potter books to read (thanks to my colleagues, I now have the entire series of Harry Potter books!), sleep my fill, meet up with Saint who is finally back from Switz!!! Check out the NIE website, sort out my hard drives... amongst many other things. Think about my future. This one scares me the most.

Oh, and I secured my German module for 1 point. Damn anti-climax. So I guess this is the end of my bidding stories, unless I decide to bid for something else for fun and lord over the year ones coz I have lots of bidding power! Hurhur.

Great, my video has loaded. Gonna finish up this episode. Frankly, I am quite disappointed with my lack of ability to process my thoughts into meaningful sentences nowadays. I can't even spell for nuts without checking dictionary.com every now and then. I think too much video watching has woolified my brain.

My hands are freezing.

The lack of competition for German is making me feel disappointed! I'm the only bidder for that particular group and it's only going for one point. I can't believe it. I have 1631 points and it's only going for 1 point?! This is so anti-climax lah!!! I was looking forward to some exciting bidding action and "showhanding" my 1631 points!

Bleargh. I think the exciting action will only happen in Round 2a when it's open to people from other facs.

Today is Empress's birthday! Happy Birthday Empress!!! :)

(I wrote this at work but now it's already 130am...
FINALLY. One more work day left!!!)

There is hardly a semester that goes by without me mentioning about bidding. Bidding, January, August. They are now synonymous! I don't know why I am so fond of talking about my bidding conquests. I think it's just a bad habit from the horrifics of bidding long long ago... watching the numbers increase with every refresh button you hit... and who can forget the server meltdown in 2005, compounded by the fact that everyone was trying to access the dying CORS. :) So anyway, here is my obligatory post about bidding.

The Module Preference exercise completely slipped out of my mind, hence no pre-allocated modules. Had to ration a bit coz I still need a large chunk of my points for German, but still managed to get my 2NM modules for 500 and 301 points respectively in Round 1a. That is a lot of points, especially have seeing that a lot of Psych mods go for 1 point, but since I have 2600+ to splurge as it's my last sem... and I see EC and PS mods going for even higher... it's a small consolation. Haha.

I have 1000+ General account points though, and I think it's such a waste coz I have nothing to spend it on. I'd gladly donate it to any year one who needs it, hahaha.

But then, I thought that bidding was going smoothly last sem and look where it got me now?

While I was putting off doing proper work at work, I saw this interesting sounding SW module - Human Development over the Lifespan. I want to know if right now I'm in a stage of my life called "The Quarter-life Crisis". Will they tell me that?

And so comes the classification of myself as a year 3-or-4 student. Because I'm sure there will be those useless introductory segments in tutorials where you are expected to say something remotely fascinating about yourself. Now, am I a year 3 or a year 4? Because technically I am not a year 4 student! But this is my 7th semester in NUS. So yes, I guess I'm a year 3.5.
And for once I am looking forward to school starting because it means that I don't have to work.

Getting hooked onto yet another K-drama... this one's called Fantasy Couple and I'm only at episode 5 and getting rather annoyed coz I really want to move forward with the story but the video loading is not cooperating.
Really looking forward to next week! I seem to think that I can accomplish a lot in that one short week of rest when in actual fact I'd probably spend half my time sleeping and the other half on useless stuff.

Aiiishhh tomorrow is Thursday. One of those stuck-in-limbo days.

But! 2 more days!!! :)
