Yesterday some kid called me "Auntie". Nowadays ah, kids just call every older female they meet "Auntie". Can't they tell the young from the old and the older? The female population is not all made up of aunties! There are young jiejies, the smart-looking twenty-somethings, ladies that just started a family, and the harassed-mother-of-three-kids aunties.
I am still a young jiejie okay!

Today I got my foot stomped by some guy on the bus while I was dozing off. Wahlao. Woke me up when I was slumbering peacefully! Somemore he didn't apologize when his hard army boot stomped on my foot! ~!#$%^&*!!!

The computer shifted position today.

Anyway I am very sad because it's the World Championships now BUT my favourite swimmer is not swimming in the World Championships! Everyday when I read the papers I see stories about Phelps not qualifying for the 400m free, Phelps winning his first relay gold, Phelps winning his first individual gold in the 200m free (arrrghhh all Thorpe's pet events!!! And he's not there to defend his title!) and news of other swimmers like Grant Hackett breaking the 800m free World Record and Aaron Peirsol winning the 100m backstroke but Ian Thorpe is missing conspicuously!
I mean all the world-class swimmers are present in Montreal and this is like the only time when there is a major swim meet besides the Olympics and Thorpe is not competing!!! :( I am very sad.

Also I was watching the Superstar show on Channel U and the girls are quite boring to watch because there seems to be no competition at all. And then the guy-who-shouldn't-be-in managed to get past to the next round again. :(

Stupid CORS, only opens the system for students to log in from 9am to 5pm (depending on the length of the bidding round). Everytime I get onto the computer it's always outside this time frame!!! Stupid CORS!

But that aside, I managed to snag the highly sought after Abnormal Psychology! Yeehah! Now 3 modules down all by Round 1A! Terrific! Not at all like last semester!

Another one of those long rambling "What I Did Today" posts:

I drove on the big main road! With all the big cars and the big buses! Up to 50 km/h! All the way from Yio Chu Kang Road to the hospital there! Today I could feel myself improve vastly. I suppose that's the benefit of having lessons in consecutive days; you don't forget what was taught earlier that easily.

After my driving lesson I went to get myself jabbed again. 4 injections this time, they don't hurt as much now. All a matter of getting used to it.

Then my mom and me went to Harvey Norman to take a look at the printers. My mom sure acts fast, we only stayed there for less than an hour and we left with a Canon All-In-One printer and an LG LCD monitor. Hohoho!!! I thought I'd have to fork out money to buy a cheapo printer since school is starting and I have no printer to print notes! But now not only do I not have to part with my money, we get an LCD monitor thrown in the bargain! Woohoo!
But there doesn't seem to be any part of the Consumer Buying Decisions rubbish thingee that I learnt in Marketing last sem!

So now I am staring at the new monitor and it seems to concave slightly.. or maybe it's my eyes. But it works best on a 1280 x 1024 resolution so now all the webpages I visit look rather small and my blog layout looks a bit screwed up on this resolution and my Ian Thorpe desktop wallpaper looks stretched. Boohoo.

That concludes my day! Wah man I am really getting very boring nowadays.

Today I went on the road! Which on hindsight, I think was a rather hazardous decision of the instructor's. No major misfortunes, except for the normal engine-stalling, jerky movements while moving off and haphazard swerving. Heh heh heh.

Okay I forgot what I wanted to blog about. Haha.
Bidding? Not going too well.
Snatching driving slots at 1am? Last night I managed to snatch about 6 slots or maybe even more!

And I can't harmonize for nuts. I recorded myself singing 屋顶 and 窗外 on the MP3 player and I sound horrible. Wah, I pity all those whose ears are present when I go on those happy singing binges.

Should go get some shut-eye... I've got another driving lesson tomorrow and then it's to the clinic for another round of jabs. Those keloids, they definitely deflated... but they left angry red marks on my body boohoo. :(

More Tales of The Talkative Parent

Talkative Parent Leong appeared on Saturday even though I had three Leong-less Saturdays and was feeling pretty darned happy about it. This time, I was smarter and decided to act busy and give monosyllabic answers. I think it worked, because I tried to make every oily pore of mine ooze disinterest.

But of course, this wouldn't be a Leong Tale if nothing happened. I had an entire blog entry forming in my head by the time he left.

So The Talkative Parent decided to talk about his aircon, printers, his 3 storey house, his wife who was an alumnus of RGS and RJC, and his daughter, himself, yada yada, and

"If you don't mind me asking, how many points did you get for your 'O' levels?"
"So what secondary school were you from?"
"Which JC did you go to?"
And then this one:
"I didn't know you were a top student."

DING DING DING! This statement has a problem, because
1a) I am not a top student, and
1b) He made the very wrong assumption that all students of my ex-JC are top students
2) Is he trying to imply that I look stupid?

Thanks a lot lor, Mister Leong. I couldn't decide whether I should feel insulted or not. For one, I think he judges people too much by their academic achievements and the whole trailing blaze of good schools. You can feel it from contemptuous people like him. I drive a car! I stay in a 3-storey house! I can afford to change all my aircons when I feel like it! My wife is from RGS and RJC! Yah and I am not interested in what you have to say.

I am very glad that the probability of meeting him again after this little job stint is very low.

And my right eyelid keeps twitching. Cannot keep complaining about people now. Bad karma.

The aunty I work with gave me three K-box vouchers yesterday. Aww, she should have passed them to me earlier, so that maybe we could use it to offset the costs for that KTV session on Monday while we were chalet-ing. Anyway, it expires on the 31st, so anybody interested in a spot of KTV? 3 vouchers, just nice for me Yanz and Xiuhui! :D

Anyway, the bidding fever is here once again. School's starting in a few weeks, and I haven't planned my timetable yet, haven't decided what modules to take, yada yada. What a drastic change compared to last semester. I only realized last night that CORS has very helpfully allocated me the PL2131 module. So I don't have to bid for that after all! Wheee!

Anyhow, this is a quote from the CORS website:
"The bidding system requires you to make careful consideration of your priorities as each decision has an impact on your future choices - a good training ground to prepare you for life after graduation. It is an opportunity to educate you on the need to weigh your options, make decisions and live with the consequences of your actions."

Yeah, whatever you say, CORS/NUS. -____-"

There was a lot of mahjong and bridge during the chalet. A lot of rowdiness, a lot of balloons, and a cockroach. And the chalet is big! Go and book the Aranda Country Club chalets next time. Ten times bigger than measly, tiny Downtown East chalets.

I finished Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince after trying to drag out my reading pleasure. Even though I was dying to finish it before I left for the chalet I decided not to bring it there. It would have interfered with the mahjong and bridge, haha. And OMG OMG OMG (spoiler alert) how can she kill off _________?!?! But I loved the Ron/Hermione thing, I always adored Ron coz he's so funny and quirky. I thought it was painfully obvious that they would end up together. Yay for Ron and Hermione!!! The other couple was a bit of a surprise though. As for the _____ thing, it's very hard to give an opinion even though I always thought he wasn't that... you know, what he became. It came as a bit of a shock though. Haha that wasn't really much of a spoiler, was it? :D

What I like about the Harry Potter books is that the plots are all intertwined throughout all 6 books. If you haven't read OotP, I would advise you to read it before you read HBP. But generally a brilliant book, and I can't wait for the last installment of the series! Hurry up already!

And my computer is fixed! *beams happily* I didn't lose my precious files, photos, and Ian Thorpe stuff that I've amassed. Thank you spirits and heavens above! I shall now start to back up my files... I think that'll take about 20 CDs and a lot of patience.

Two things:

I got a pay raise at the clinic! $5/hr to $6/hr. Yay! That works out to be about $20+ more each month! :)

Going for a chalet tomorrow, miss me not! Haha.

16th July! The day Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is out.
Save for a few hours while I'm out tuitioning, I shall stay at home and wait for the delivery of my book!

I'm gonna be damn upset if I lose all my stuff in the computer. Please, heavens and spirits above, let the data in the computer come out of the ordeal unharmed!!! This standby computer has a squeaky mouse, a not-very-nice-to-type-on keyboard, and none of my favourite emoticons on MSN Messenger. Boo.
It's only redeeming feature is that it has better speakers and isn't as sluggish as the one that crashed.

Just a quick one.

My computer crashed. Some virus wormed its way in and whenever I click on something the whole bloody thing hangs. BAH! Basically I can't do anything except to stare at my wall paper. Luckily my desktop wallpaper is a picture of Ian Thorpe, so that kind of makes up for the frustration of a screwed up computer that hangs all the bloody time. SUPER annoying.

So my sis is bringing the hard drive to let her friend's brother try and repair it, and hopefully, hopefully, *fingers crossed* my files and valuable data won't be gone forever. If I get everything back safe and sound, the first thing I'm going to do is to back up all my bloody files. All my valuable photos with all my friends!!! SO MANY OF THEM! AND SOME CAN'T BE FOUND BE FOUND ELSEWHERE! Freak. This is the most important thing in the hard drive. All my memories! All my Ian Thorpe stuff! All my lecture notes and school stuff -- okay, I don't really care about them. All my MP3s!!! All my bookmarks! BAH!!!!
So everybody, learn a lesson from me and BACK UP YOUR FILES NOW!!!

Anyway my dad connected the modem to the other Internet-less computer so at least I can surf the net now. Not that devastating yet. If I can't go online I'm screwed. How to book my driving lessons?! How to bid for my modules?! How to do research on the modules?! Wahlao. I never knew that I was so dependent on the bloody computer. Having a computer (that works and doesn't hang) is absolutely vital. I think the computer is my favourite machine in the house (the TV too). Last night I couldn't come online and I was feeling bloody empty and bored. See, you stupid computer!!! Don't let the computer take over your lives!!!

For some reason this PC can't download MSN because it hangs whenever it tries to install it (another stupid computer tt likes to hang) so no MSN, no ICQ, no nothing. Email's your best bet.

And today I managed to do some steering wheel turning and left-cornering in the circuit! And driving in 2nd gear! But I'm still a little scared that I'll crash spectacularly into something. The right-turning still sucks though, gotta repeat that the next lesson. The driving instructor also says "Don't be panic". Hahahahahaha I always thought "Don't be panic" was a phrase that "belonged" to a certain individual, so it was kind of surprising to hear it from someone else.

Ah wells, this post isn't that a quick post after all. :)

Yesterday morning (to be accurate, Monday morning) reminded me once again how much I used to (and still do) dislike morning peak traffic and taking public transport during the damned peak hours.

During that truly agonizing one hour, the bus crawled at a snail's pace even though it usually travels much much faster when I take it at 1030am. I was cursing and tsking and looking at my watch every 3 minutes (and realizing that the second hand stopped moving). Because I was late! Late! Late! I was even contemplating taking a cab down to work. When I start thinking of hopping into a taxi it is because I am bloody late and I will get into trouble for being late. And everytime someone pressed the bloody bell to indicate that they wanted to alight I wanted to scream!!! Everytime the bus dwaddled at the bus stop I wanted to shriek and shake my fist in the bus driver's face! Every stupid second counts!!! I felt like the times when I was late for school and I was THIS CLOSE to reaching the parade square but the stupid bell rang.

And, while I was putting on my best annoyed-looking face, this person's handphone rang and a baby's screeches pierced through the dreary morning silence! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's bright and early in the morning and I am grumpy and not feeling like morning person at all and I hear a baby screeching in the bus?! Who on earth uses baby screeches as a ringtone for goodness sakes?!

If not for the fact that I caught an air-conditioned bus and managed to find a seat, I'll be even more pissed off with the annoyingly slow moving bus, the annoying people who have to alight at every single freaking stop, the annoying niggling fact that I'm late late late, the annoying morning rush hour, and the the annoyingness of it all.

But anyway, today I had my very first driving lesson. I had to wait 15 mins for the stupid bus (I think buses and me, we have some kind of hatred going on) and ended up being almost late. The instructor was friendly enough, until he kept making me move forward and reverse, move forward and reverse, move forward and reverse till my leg muscles were so tensed up while trying to find that magical point that is halfway between depressing and releasing the clutch. I was quite kancheong during the lesson because I was worried about banging something, ever since I banged into the kerb and caused a small collison while attempting the Go-Kart in Escape Theme Park. Well anyway now I can move forwards and and backwards for about 10 metres without the engine stalling. Go me!

The instructor also introduced the different parts of the car, the yada yada, how to get in and out of the car safely, how to adjust the mirrors, how to turn on the engine, how to shift the gears around, how to turn the steering wheel (he said I turned it too slowly) and how to brake (he said my brake was not good enough coz I stomped too hard on it and made the car jerk forward).

So after a very cramped up left leg, I left the driving school and went to meet my sis for a spot of shopping. Yay finally we're taking advantage of the Great Singapore Sale for the first time ever since it started. I bought 4 pairs of earrings, please clobber me on the head. And one top. Which is bright yellow. Hahaha. O my hard-earned money! I am starting to think that leading the hermit's life sounds pretty appealing.
But my 2008 plan is looking pretty good now, I think I should be able to save enough by then. Provided that I do not cave into other worldly temptations and splurge all my money away.

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince coming out in 4 days!!! Okay nothing more to report about my boring life. Tata.

This made me very displeased. See the scratches. What the hell. I usually have faith in mankind but See The Scratches!!!

Please be gentle with me, I am only a CD case.

Today my uncle treated us all to a sumptous zi char dinner which of course included the perennial favourite, Chilli Crab. This of course, is not good news for my ever-expanding belly. Come to think of it, I didn't even eat that much in the first place but the stomach was already protruding at an alarming rate. Maybe the stomach volume is shrinking.

And to backtrack, why did they vote out Barney* (M3, the cute looking little guy) from Project Superstar? To be honest, none of the contestants exude a very Superstar-ish vibe. But my personal favourite is the 江南 guy and Barney.

I have a lot of TV shows to watch, two Harry Potter books to read before the sixth one comes, and I have to wake up at the crack of dawn on Monday. It's a busy week, and school is starting!
School is starting. School... is... starting... No enthusiasm there.

*Barney is named as such because he does a damn good imitation of Barney the Dinosaur! i.e. Singing "I love you, you love me..."

This is why being short is not very good --

Some random person almost rammed into me and he even stepped on my foot! What the hell! He might be one head taller than me but I do not practice Invisibility! Last I checked, I wasn't opaque or transparent. I would think that any other normal person will be able to notice a solid human being standing at the bus stop even though I tend to blend into crowds pretty well. This person obviously does not notice things beneath him. Yeah the air might be fresher up there but still please try and take note of the shorter things that may not enter your sight of vision and try not to bang into them.

The only advantage short people have is not having to duck when you walk underneath low branches.

Anyway I got 5 jabs on Thursday. The last one was particularly painful because according to the doctor, the needle might have been made blunt by the entry of the needle in and out of the skin. Gotta go back for more jabs 3 weeks later.

I tried to hunt for a Ian Thorpe Yahoo Group (one that preferably caters to Singaporeans) that is functioning well and has up-to-date information but it seems like a mammoth task. That is so irritating. We are suffering from a dearth of Thorpe information here! Somebody should start a fan club!

Today I went to Corinne's house and ate a lot of food and played bridge and monopoly... hahaha it seems like that's all we do. Play alot of bridge, eat a lot of junk, play a lot of monopoly, and eat even more junk. We should change our name to Eatalot instead of Ichee, hahaha. :)

Due to a strange twist of events, my Friday is now free. So that leaves me free to meet up with Ichee!
Yeah, sometimes things do really turn out the way you want them to.

Quite a productive day today!

I finally went down to the driving school to get my PDL and then registered with the school so I can start booking lessons now! (Provided that there are empty slots available.) Due to Saint's stroke of genius, we managed to avoid the long queue hahahaha and avoided spending more time than we should there.

Then I went to Raffles City in hopes of catching a glimpse of the great Australian swimmer who is a 5-time Olympic gold medalist but sadly we were never meant to be! Dawdled around for a while and took some photos with the "117th IOC Session" sign haha. There were a lot of policemen patrolling the area. And I was rather tempted to clobber those who had IOC passes and steal the passes so that I could enter the restricted areas hahahaha. But you'll probably see me squatting in jail if I did that. Anyhow London won the 2012 bid. Paris tried 3 times and yet it still couldn't get it. So sad. Maybe Paris will get 2016, if they still plan to bid for it.

Anyway, no time! No time! So we decided to skip the Zara sale.

Finally I went to meet back-from-UK Xiuhui (whose hair is now progressively bigger) and the rest of the girls. Some chit-chat and moose-expressions concluded the day. And I also saw a lot of random people today. Two Sec 4 classmates, both of whom did not seem to recognize/notice me and I can't be bothered, and 1 senior who also could not recognize/notice me, and I also can't be bothered. Oh and a primary school friend. Why why why, do I meet all these random people but not the person that I set out today to meet???

Tomorrow I am going to get myself jabbed again. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

I have a big pimple on my cheek. Not good. This pimple has sickening timing. What if I actually meet Ian Thorpe and his reaction once he sees me is to recoil in horror at that big red pimple?

Oh the joy of fantasizing shaking Ian Thorpe's hand and taking a photo with him. Haha. 我是个大花吃。一整天都在发无聊的白日梦。 走火入魔了!!!I am getting a bit too carried off here but I'm still young and silly so I should be allowed to act young and silly. When I'm a decade older perhaps I shall read these entries with much fondness and smile at how young and silly I am.

But for now it's back to daydreaming about meeting Ian Thorpe and shaking his hand...

Ian Thorpe is now on Singapore soil! I saw him on the news, for about 5 seconds. And it's such a pity; I am too dignified to act like a crazy groupie (haha) and stake out at hotels and the airport, plus they're so tight-lipped about everything. No public appearances, so says IOC. How to meet him like that?! How often does he come to Singapore?! This is such a rare opportunity!!! But I don't get to see him!!!

So instead of being a crazy groupie I shall channel all my excitement/complaints into this blog! Hahaha.

And if you read related reports about the IOC session in the local paper, whenever they mention the celebrities and famous sporting icons that are making a rare appearance, they'll always mention Beckham... that other football guy, Raul something... Muhammad Ali... and maybe Tony Blair. And some stodgy royalty. So... what about Ian Thorpe?! He's Australia's greatest swimmer after all... but there's hardly a mention about him in the papers... so unfair!!!

I originally wanted to go down to Raffles City tomorrow, since me and my sis had a shopping trip planned... but my little sis refused to go to her daycare centre and so we were thrusted the job of being babysitters for the day. GRRRRR!!! We had to let her tag around us if we were to go shopping. I'd rather not go anywhere than having to let my little sis tag along. So now no more shopping. No more Raffles City. No more hoping that I will bump into Ian Thorpe in the busy streets of Orchard. GRRRR!!! Sigh sometimes little kids give you nothing but Trouble.

Anyway now I've found something new to do online... read Baby Blues comic strips! That'll take a very long time I reckon... they have about 10 years' worth of comic strips.

The aunt whom I used to teach English to gave birth yesterday. She chose to go for a Caesarian Section on a specific date even though she wasn't in labour, like huffing and panting and suffering from contractions and all that. So in other words you can determine the birthday of your baby! Like choose a 良辰吉日 and then say "Hey! I think I shall pop today!" then go and give birth. 1st July, very easy to remember IMO :)

First days of the month are special days. In January we have New Year's Day, in April we have April's Fool, in May we have Labour Day, in September we have Teacher's Day, in October we have Children's Day, and in November we have my birthday! Hahahaha. Yah so easy to remember right?

I found out the main reason why my aunt stopped lessons with me, besides the fact that I can't teach for nuts. She's attending English lessons at a community centre, which I think is definitely more beneficial when you are learning a language. At least you get to gibber with someone else who is as half-baked as you.
I didn't get anybody to gibber to when I was learning Japanese, so I didn't pick it up as quickly as others who can chatter to their friends and from there learn from their mistakes and it also helps them to remember how to use the language better.

Leong the talkative parent didn't appear when I was working today!!! Whew!!! So lucky.
