Spent a very productive Saturday getting some dates and confirming the venue - must say we're very efficient haha.

Also finally caught up with HIMYM!!! Neglected the show for a while since I didn't have time and only started re-watching from S09E07 a few days back and watched like 7 or 8 eps today. Tomorrow is the last of Season 9, and the last of the entire series. I couldn't remember lots of things that I've watched over the years haha. Such as all those references to characters and incidents. Still think the first 7 seasons were much better; season 9 is a weeeeee bit draggy. Can't wait for Ted to meet The Mother!!!! After all those trials and tribulations! FINALLY!

And thus concludes my 3-year affair with HIMYM.

Saw these GIFs from a HIMYM article I was reading and thought they were cute haha

Will miss Barney Stinson and his wisecracks and exaggerated ways.

And this old image that I posted before but still remains awesome:

Next I want to watch this hot Korean drama that everyone's talking about! "My Love From The Stars" or something like that. Haven't watched any Kdrama for years! Have high hopes for this haha.

Another work week beckons. Boo.

So half the year is over.

It seems like nowadays my idea of blogging is to plonk down a bunch of photos that I took over the past x days of my life. :x

A photo is worth a thousand words right? It's easier to let the pictures do the talking. Heh.

So this is what happened in June:

Early Fathers' Day/Belated Mothers' Day dinner that cost me a bomb.
We went for a Penang buffet at Princess Terrace Cafe, Copthorne King Hotel.
This is very rare because we don't usually dine at such atas places. 90% of the time we settle birthdays or special occasions at a zi char place.

So here are my budding food photography skills put to the test!

Penang rojak and it doesn't come with 油条 :(

Salad and erm... some other delicacies in the background

Took a little of everything so I don't know what exactly is on this plate

Poh piah and kueh pie tee, self explanatory

Prawn mee bee hoon

Lots of colourful and mini kueh

Dinner came up to be about $68 per pax. Not cheap.

Shinhwa - The Return Concert at RWS
THEY ARE BACK IN SINGAPORE TO STAGE A CONCERT AFTER 6 YEARS!
如果不去,那就真的很对不起自己。
遗憾的是,my seats were damn crappy. Even though I paid a premium price for it.
CAT 1 tickets never mind, FIRST ROW seats never mind, but you charge us $268 + $3 sistic fee and I couldn't even see anything on the stage for 80% of the time?!?!
What's the point of paying so much to stare at the screens by the side of the stage?!
I feel damn cheated. Mosh pit tickets were only $208. Definitely can see the stage better. Even Cat 2 tickets have a better view ok!!!
But ok la, I did manage to see them up close. But only when they walked to the extended stage, and ONLY when they walked over to my side.
They all look flawless (probably thick staging make-up) and SO GOOD LOOKING garhhhh even more handsome than on TV!!!!
Unfortunately Dongwan didn't seem to like my side much. He only wandered over like once or twice :( and didn't stay for long. :(

Banners and flags that fans made and distributed to everyone for free, how's that for dedication?

Eric and Minwoo are the most popular it seems

One of the few times when my view of them was unobstructed

You cannot see this clearly but this is Junjin! Just metres away from me!

I also managed to take a rather crappy fancam before the guards could stop me. They are so bloody strict!!! But it's 80% filled with fangirly screaming and the stage lights are so bright I could barely make out who which blindingly glaring blob is.

Baking adventures
I haven't had the time to bake ever since my little sister's birthday in April...

Saw this rainbow cake in KL and it looks pretty with all the colourful layers!

So I tried to replicate it in the form of a cupcake...

Here goes the different coloured layers

The brown ones are Teh-C cupcakes which was quite #fail, didn't taste anything like Teh-C but tasted more of cinnamon

Rainbow cross section. How do I make the layers more horizontal instead of them all congregating in the middle?

The recipe itself is simple. The tedious part is creating the 6 coloured layers.
I read a few recipes and most of the ingredients are the same, I think the one that I followed was this - http://allrecipes.com.au/recipe/13653/rainbow-cupcakes.aspx.

Recently I've got a couple of days of leave to clear and since Ms Koh is leaving for the States soon, I MUST SPEND MORE TIME WITH HER!!!!

So we had a hot (blazing hot!!!) date one leisurely Friday and I got to take a photo with a hot hunk. Evidence:

Check out the blindingly white smile :D

And the very next Saturday we checked out Open Door Policy and Forty Hands at Yong Siak Street.

And yet on another afternoon we decided to do a spot of baking.

Baker Koh with the red velvet brownie batter

Marbled Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies. Recipe from here. I tried cutting them out into heart shapes like what was shown in the recipe but failed miserably coz our cake was too thick.

And today was a rare Saturday today with no Bukit Timah climb, no salsa, no meetups.
So, baking it was (again)!

Spent so long sieving the almond flour to this fine consistency -___-

Almost perfectly round-shaped macarons!!! If you recall my disasterous first attempt at macaron making, this is a huge improvement already. Haha.

This tray's slightly out of shape... they are supposed to be heart-shaped :(

Matcha macarons! The first tray was chao tah (the brown ones), the second tray was slightly undercooked (the green ones - but at least they still looked green) and the third tray had cracked surfaces! :(

My newly bought donut pans!

 Mini-donuts glazed with chocolate ganache

Psssst, the chocolate ganache has been sitting in my fridge for the past 6 months. I hope nobody gets a tummy ache from eating it.

The donut recipe is from http://food-4tots.com/2009/02/11/baked-donuts/ and I was trying to re-create the heart poppers from this website - http://ellenaguan.blogspot.sg/2011/02/valentines-dessert-heart-poppers.html but the donuts puffed up a little too much and didn't really look like a heart. :( I even bought colourful picks from Daiso for the heart poppers!

The matcha macarons looked so good here:
And while I'm still feeling adventurous, I want to try Earl Grey Macarons (as seen here http://www.foodjetaime.com/2010/11/earl-grey-salted-caramel-macarons.html) and Rainbow Macarons (http://duhlicious.com/2012/06/rainbow-macarons/). :x

Challenging!!!

I haven't listened to K-pop for a really long while...

But Shinhwa's new title song is awesome, awesomer and awesomest!!! :D

Here's to a successful comeback! 대박!!! :)

Aloha!!! I gave my blog a facelift today! :D

Come to think of it, I have been using the same blogskin for the past 6,7 years! Stopped fiddling around with my blog ever since I entered Uni. To think that in the past I used to be quite enthusiatic about coding and designing my own blogskins! Haiz, I've really lost that creativity and the ability to decipher code that only computers understand.

The thing about templates is that it doesn't offer that level of flexiblilty and customization that I like. And I don't know how to get rid of that fake twitter bar on the side and replace it with my own tweets. The me 8 years ago would probably know how, or would go and find out how. Fast forward to 2011 and the me now can't really be bothered any more. Haha.

I'm listening to the live stream of the SBS Gayo Daejun now as I blog. Finally figured out how to stream the bloody thing live after suffering with 2.5 hours of truncated videos and slow buffering speeds. I updated all my plug-ins and finally realized that I have to download TVU Player and install the corresponding plug-in. Bleahhhh. And now the show has just ended. -__- At least I still figured it out yo. Haven't totally lost that geek in me. TAKE THAT TECHNOLOGY!

I almost forgot about the SBS Gayo Daejun actually, if not for the fact that my little sister reminded me... Every year since 2007, I'd be camping in front of the computer on 29, 30, 31st Dec to watch the annual music shows. Now she can identify blurry pixalated figures in a flash while I'm like "who is that? Never heard that song before!"

Anyway back to my blog... I realized that this blog has been in existence since 2001! That would make my blog 10 years old this year!!! WOW!!!

My blog deserves a birthday cake! :D

Before this blog I wrote in places like the now-defunct teenopendiary... in fact I may have archived all my entries somewhere and it would probably make for good reading if I want to laugh at myself some day. Hahaha :D

Which would mean I have been rambling to myself on the Internet for 12 or 13 years! Admittedly I have been rambling much less now that I am old(er). But I'm gonna keep the rambling going! May this blog survive another 10 years and beyond yo! :D

ANDDDDDD... hate to say this but HALF OF MY WEEKLONG BREAK IS OVER and I AM VERY SAD :(

Already not looking forward to going back to work and facing nincompoops and kancheong spiders. Sigh!

(My almost brand-new laptop crashed while I was writing this entry. It is its evil way of getting back at me after I happily declared victory over technology.)

Wow. I only had a grand total of 3 posts in the month of November!

Here we are now, 4 more weeks to the end of 2011, 3 more weeks to my week long break! :D

Recently got myself a new Asus laptop. Thanks to Mr Poh's excellent (and some may call it unorthodox) bargaining skills, I bought it at $50 less than the stated price. Now that I no longer have to wait for my little sister to finish using the computer, I can hopefully catch up more on my shows, blog more, etc. etc.

Also caught You Are The Apple Of My Eye or 那些年,我们一起追的女孩。Can I say how much I dislike mysterious forces like missed opportunities and knowing the "what could have been"s? OKAY SPOILER HERE. THE GUY AND THE GIRL SHOULD END UP TOGETHER. I hate seeing the guy look at the girl on the day of her wedding and then thinking to himself that he will be happy for her because he loves her. Idiot! Why didn't you grab her when you had the chance to? And similarly the girl should have grabbed the chance to be with him when she had plenty of chances to. Angry leh! Yes, I do agree that sometimes 暧昧的时期是最甜蜜的 but it irks me when 2 people who obviously have the hots for each other and are perfect for each other, are just too stupid to realize it, or too scared, too prideful, yada yada. (And the lead actor is cute!)

Haha I should chill, it’s just a movie, although it is based on the director’s real life experiences. I guess this is why I like watching romantic comedies and chick flicks, because I know for sure that the lead couple will end up together. I like feel-good movies. It makes me feel good.

Some people say that the movie reminds them of their youth. My youth was very much different from what was depicted in the movie. The thrill of puppy love? No such thing. Silly and childish experiences? The heady rush, the secret thrill... I'm starting to feel that I missed out a huge part of adolescence.

Last Tuesday, a colleague got wind of an extra unwanted ticket to the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) and very kindly offered me that ticket. The Hallyu Wave has taken over Asia people, although it has started to die down in me. That was 4 hours of standing - very tiring! And also very telling when my back started to ache. I AM GETTING TOO OLD FOR SUCH THINGS. I would have thought seeing groups like 2NE1, Girls Generation, Super Junior in the flesh would get me more pumped up, but no, I think this whole Hallyu thing is becoming more like a been-there-done-that thing for me. It's no longer a novelty, gone are the days when a Korean group coming to Singapore is a BIG THING for fans here. I no longer feel any excitement. The only concert where I truly enjoyed in recent memory was Jay Chou's.

The weekend past was rainy and again, I did some baking – Mango Cupcakes this time. Unfortunately it was a bit of a failure because the texture was not the typical cakey, crumbly cupcake. :( Never mind. Try again next time!

2011, don't be in such a hurry to go! Let me enjoy this cool festive season a little more!

What was 2010 to you?

2010 to me was about personal growth, learning about myself, falling in love and learning how to love, having my heart crushed suddenly and cruelly, learning how to pick up the pieces, learning how to let go and move on (still gotta work on this one).

It was about seeing how friendships can be so fragile, how something so minor can escalate into soured relations. It was about being caught in the middle, it was about learning that one wrong decision, one bad move, can change everything. It was about the biggest regret of my life.

It was about secretly hoping. It was about disappointments, again and again. It was about the tears I've shed, the days I would sit in front of my computer at work with tears rolling down. It was about constantly thinking and missing of someone. I got the 轰轰烈烈的爱情 that I once sought for, only to realize that with 轰轰烈烈的爱情 also brings 轰轰烈烈的痛苦。

It was about how I had to sneak around, how I had to lie. It was about bittersweet memories. It was about learning that "If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it!" (quote I got from Twitter.)

It was about straddling that fine line between friendship and love. It was about listening and encouraging, and giving, giving, giving. It was about learning to forgive. And most importantly, it was about learning to come to peace with myself.

2010 was all about K-pop. It was about how K-pop turned mainstream. Everybody and their younger sister and pet turtle is into K-pop nowadays. The Korean wave is sweeping Singapore and its teens into a frenzy but truthfully, I'm starting to get a little sick and tired of it. I miss the days when only a few people could understand what I was talking about I was babble about K-pop. It was like some kind of secret code, one that elevated you into a funky inner circle that was the bubblegum world of K-pop. Those were the passionate, die-hard fans.

It was about how Korean acts are dropping in to our humble shores as frequently as how Singaporeans drop in to JB. I went for an unprecedented number of K-pop concerts/showcases this year. Count 'em - B2ST (first row seats! shook hands with all 6 of them!), 2AM, 4minute, CN Blue, that massive 2-hour shrieking and neck craning that was the K-pop Night Concert, and of course most recently, I met 2PM, missA and MBLAQ up close and personal! (Chansung and Junho even said 안녕하세요 to me haha.) Even though I only played a small part by holding up the script for them to read, it was a cool experience nonetheless! That said, I hope groups don't swing by Singapore so frequently in 2011. It is very taxing for fans. And not to mention the money fans have to fork out to see them perform!

It was also about learning the Korean language, although it is with much embarrassment that I can only converse in very very very very verrrrrrrrrrrrry basic Korean after 1 year of classes.

2010 was about Jay Chou's epic concert. No other K-pop concert I've attended this year can beat his epic concert in July, seriously. I think it was the funnest and most high concert I've attended.

2010 was about maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. It was about having the discipline to exercise, till it became part of my lifestyle. I met 4 ex-colleagues over the course of the past few weeks and they all commented that I look different. I concluded that it was because my face is now less chubby and slightly sharper! And the hair. The hair is longer.

2010 was the year my hard disk crashed, bringing along with it a ton of my memories in the form of photos. :( (Reminder to backup your files - it's the end of the year, so back up the entire year's worth of data now!)

2010 was about the worst holiday of my life.

2010 was also about getting hooked onto online shopping, and that is a terrible addiction. I should stop before I become broke.

So I guess that more or less sums up what 2010 was to me. This year, I've not done anything exciting. Last year I said I wanted to go speed dating for my "do one new thing each year" but it didn't materialize. So I've decided. That I want to climb a mountain. (!!!!!!!!!!!!) If not next year, then at least in the next 2-3 years!

1) Climb a mountain (we are aiming for Mount Kinabalu)
2) Do something about that Phillips Securities account and start looking seriously into letting my money grow for me!
3) Get a pair of new spectacles
4) See a derm about my ugly back
5) Have the discipline to maintain my exercise regime
6) Embrace new challenges that may or may not arise in my job

I hope 2011 will bring better things. I've had a good break for the last week of 2010. 2010 was not a fantastic year but I shall end it on a good note and spend it in the company of my wonderful friends, and also start the new year with a bang with my great pals and KTV. Thank God for blessing me with awesome friends. :) That is truly something to be grateful for in 2010. :)

W: 我觉得你还是放不下。
SY: 我自己也觉得我自己放不下。

I am so easy to read, like an open book!

(You can take one minute to love somebody but probably an entire lifetime to forget them.)

***

W: Why did you all want to keep it underground?
SY: I'm not the one who wanted to keep it underground!
W: I know why... because it's not stable. If it's stable, it wouldn't be over in a month.

Harsh words to hear but there is some truth in it. Got together too hastily without knowing each other better.
But I had no chance to cultivate a stable relationship in the first place?!
Maybe it was doomed right from the start.
So maybe I shouldn't have defied the natural order of things when Man Utd lost the championship!

Yes I know nobody likes to read mopey self-absorbing evaluations about some stupid thing that happened in the past. W was in the loop back then and today we were talking and she started asking me about how it all began. I still feel sad when I think about it.

I've also concluded that it is better for men to do the hunting. Let them do the chasing. Ladies, enjoy the chase. Do not offer yourself to them on a pedestal. Do not appear too eager. You can drop hints but wait for them to take the bait. If you are too obliging and too easy to get, they will not appreciate you. They will take you for granted.

Ok emo moment over. I managed to stream the SBS and KBS Gayo shows rather smoothly this year. Gonna miss the MBC one tomorrow though, and such a pity, because the lineup for the MBC one looks the best out of the three! :(

Colleague passed me a pair of Elva Hsiao concert tickets, so off I went to her concert! The front part was kinda boring, she started off rather wobbly and a little off-key I think, and the crowd only started getting hyped after she went down to the audience. Or maybe it's because I'm not too familiar with her songs. But she did sing all the songs that I know - my Elva repertoire is painfully limited anyway - and my get-high KTV fav 爱的主打歌 was the last encore song heh :) So the latter half of the concert was definitely more high than the first.

One of the few and rare perks of working in my company. Free tickets! :D

And speaking of tickets, we were plagued by ticketing woes for the Korean Pop Night concert. But after much effort from my SNSD crazy friend, I am now officially going to attend the concert on 23 Oct! Hohoho. :) But I hope no more Kpop acts come down to Singapore for the rest of the year. Please stop bringing them in! Give fans a break! Our wallets are getting thinner. :(

Another weekend gone :( At least this week's a short week. Off to watch WGM~

My tooth's back to normal :D or rather, as best restored as it could be to its original condition, so now I can grin a toothy grin! :D

Napped for a while just now that's why I'm still up at 4am. Korean Pop Night tickets are going at $258, $218, $168 and $118. Niggling suspicion (actually full-blown suspicion) that people will be camping overnight at the 313 Somerset HMV in order to snag the best seats since tickets don't go on sale through traditional means i.e. Sistic. Sigh, I draw the line at camping overnight. I just hope we can get decent seats. Will ticket sales be as explosive as Jay Chou's concert? :x

Hungry now :( shall go and sleep.

Today's personal column on mismatched expectations between couples in The Sunday Times proved to be particularly educational. The writer stated that there 5 "love languages" and that each of us will tend to express our love for others in one or two particular ways. I'm filing that in my "How to learn to get along with a significant other" database.

Nowadays whatever I watch (i.e. We Got Married) or read, I tend to see myself in them.

It seems like Korean stars are dropping by our little red dot almost every week, if not fortnight. I spent Saturday afternoon at the CN Blue showcase. :) It was pretty good, but much has to be said about the lousy service of the ticketing agent (Gatecrash) and bad sound system. A lot of people were shouting for So Nyeo Shi Dae hahaha and Yonghwa even showed off his couple ring! LOL :)

OK I'm going to sleep early today! Tootles~

I may be a Kpop fan but the rate at which new groups (especially girl groups) are appearing is really too fast. There's now a girl group whose youngest member is only like 9 or 10 years old (the group's average age is 15 my goodness) 0____0. What next? We see an embryo singing and twisting their unformed bodies on stage?

Another group with 9 members and no substance - sorry but their live singing sucks - was thought to be the next So Nyeo Shi Dae but unfortunately I think they are just all legs and nothing else. You want another Wonder Girls/SNSD kind of group? Please train more and don't debut in a hurry. Give us quality instead of quantity!

And if you thought Super Junior (who used to have 13 members - that number has shrank since then) had one too many faces/names to remember, there are talks of a 20-member group debuting soon. Do they seriously think people would be interested in a mass of faces who all look alike? And the poor dudes get like 2 seconds of singing time each?

Seriously none of them have that wow factor anymore. I will admit that Kpop has been all about the pre-packaged, pretty girls/cute boys who are trained in singing and dancing catchy songs but this "mass production" seems to be getting worse. It's like factories churning out groups after groups with no quality control, hastily assembled together without much thought. Quite sad, the rookies this year are nothing to shout about... except for maybe JYP's new girl group.

Here's the debut stage of the group with the 9-year old kid. She's the rapper but her voice is still so kiddish! And the rest of them look way to young to be thrusting their chests and hips. *me prude*

Restarted my Korean lessons after a 2-month break. I think my new Korean teacher teaches better than my old teacher. 죄송합니다 박선생님! ㅠ.ㅠ

I went to squeeze with hordes of sweaty adolescents on a hot and humid night. Just to watch 4minute (and BEAST) perform. SO OLD ALREADY STILL DO THIS KIND OF THING. -___-" Our passes were supposedly VIP passes but all those excitable teens stood up on the chairs and effectively blocked my view. Thanks ah fanboys and fangirls. Well at least I didn't have to pay for it, haha.

Haven't been rotting at home on a Saturday afternoon for a real long time. Yay to rotting! :)

Front row seats at BEAST's showcase! :) It was awesomeness having such a great and unblocked view :) Seeing Korean stars just within my reach! They were soooo close that they didn't look like ants for once. They even shook (or in some cases, touched) my hand. Very handsome. :)

It's a pity the strict security didn't allow for any photos. But nonetheless it was a good experience to remember. The fans' screams were deafening. I can hear my ears ringing.

I don't know what's gonna happen over the weekend but I don't think it can get any worse than China.

These are the dates to remember:

30 Oct 2010: Eric gets out of the army
7 Dec 2010: Dongwan gets out of the army

Still quite some way to go.

And so there goes my 4-day long weekend... It went by in a flash. As expected. Good times never last long.

Anyway I'm super in love with another make-believe couple on We Got Married. Yonghwa + Seohyun!
If I were 19 years old again like Seohyun, I wouldn't mind having Yonghwa as my first love. HAHAHA.

I completed my first Korean drama for 2010 - was busy watching "You're Beautiful" for the past week. It's a really cute and funny drama with an awesome OST. (Korean drama soundtracks are always awesome.) Initially I couldn't stand the girl acting stupid and dense (seriously - why is it that bumbling clumsy girls are always the ones who get like a ton of boys falling head over heels for them - it just gives false hopes to the rest of us out there) but the guys are chaarrrrrrrmmmmingg.... ♥

And this is unprecedented - usually I don't give two hoots about the 2nd male lead, the one who is ever so nice and gentle, always there for the girl but will never end up with her - but I am all a flutter over the guy who plays Kang Shinwoo in the show. ♥♥♥ I have something new to obsess over now HAHAHA.

The Hong sisters do not disappoint - this drama is as quirky, funny, touching and romantic as the other Hong sisters dramas (My Girl, Fantasy Couple, Sassy Girl Choon Hyang). The pacing is just nice too - at 16 episodes, it doesn't fall into that draggy Korean drama trap that makes me feel like screaming at the leads to GET A MOVE ON!

Okay shall try and sleep early and mull over job opportunities tomorrow.

Oh man the second 2odsubs account got suspended before I got the chance to watch WGM! They were really quick this time round.

I want some Kwon and Ga-in lovin'!!! Gahhhhhhhhh.

And I read on Twitter that the Wonder Girls are coming to Singapore!

Massively sian now. My long break is about to come to an end. BACK TO WORK TOMORROW! Darn. The next long break will happen only when I quit my job. Haha. Goodness knows when that will be. :(

Spent the last precious few days of the long break watching the Jo Kwon <3 Ga In couple in We Got Married. I haven't watched WGM ever since Andy/Solbi days. I didn't even watch the Junjin/Lee Si Young couple! But Kwonnie is a hilarious husband! Hahahaha. I like funny people! Anyway I haven't marathoned something like that in a long long while. Sigh those were the days when I would watch Xman clips one after another without having to think of waking up early the next day. Oh how nice it is to not go to work and have all the free time in the world!

I had a strange dream this morning. I dreamed that a horse came so close to me and its face was practically hanging over my shoulder! In my haste to get away from the horse, I bolted upright in my sleep. I thought TV shows were exaggerating when people actually bolt upright in the middle of a nightmare, but I guess it does happen. But I wouldn't call the horse a nightmare. Just that it was getting too close for comfort and I don't exactly like horses sniffing and hanging around my shoulder. Hmm.

I didn't finish reading up to the 1000th copy of 8 Days either. And I have a ton of Korean homework. SIGH! Another new week. :( Another Monday to hate.

Omo, just watched fancams of SHINee arriving at Changi Airport. SUPER a lot of fans there screaming. If I went I would have felt so old! A 24 year old screaming for 17/18 year old boys. Bleargh.

I was clearing leave today and was at home. What did I do?

I gave my Grimaces a bath! On the left, the counterfeit Grimace, on the right, the authentic one. :)

Poor Grimace looking weirdly out of shape after having the water squeezed out of him

Enjoying a sun tan!

Damn old school camera. Big and bulky. Can sell to the museum.

And look! What's this?

It's a cute bao!! :)

Crap man I don't know what I did to my handphone, I happily updated some software thing without realizing that the phone would restore to its default factory state! Now EVERYTHING is gone! EVERYTHING! SMSes, my calendar schedule, all gone! My contact list is all screwed up and the best thing is I didn't back up so I might have lost some newly acquired numbers. RAWRRRRRR!!! /angry
