There was a major blackout just now, which resulted in me having to bathe in the dark.
Actually bathing in the dark is a very interesting experience.
At least the water supply wasn't cut off too.
Luckily the power was restored after a brief half an hour in darkness.
I thought the whole blackout was really interesting. As in, how often do we actually get the chance to light candles and sweat it out in the dark (because there's no fan!!!)? And then it was even more interesting to hear people all around the neighbourhood yelling when everything went black.
So now I appreciate electricity better! I can blog, I can watch TV, I can turn on the fan, etc.
Actually what I wanted to do was to read under candlelight but the blackout was too short for me to do that.
Ahhhhh. Never underestimate the power of electricity.

I've actually been spending the past 5 days at the Expo. I breathe the air of the Expo, I stand on Expo ground (for 11hrs a day), I eat Expo food (there's virtually NOTHING to eat at the Expo except for Burger King), I talk Expo talk. Or rather, I talk promoter-talk. I am never never never never going to do sales again. I've talked till my saliva ran out, talked till my tongue is sore, talked till I don't feel like opening my mouth for the next 100 years. Stood on my feet till they ache, till it's making me miserable and grouchy, till I have to drag my poor pathetic feet home, till I find even sitting on the toilet bowl a relief. Sure, the pay's really really REALLY wonderful, my bosses are real nice, but sales are just not my thing. Especially when you get stressed at seeing how many sanitisers others have sold.
Well at least one good thing came out of this. I now appreciate my feet much much more.
Thank you feet!
You're wonderful!
Wonderful toes, wonderful soles, wonderful heels... sorry if I've ill-treated you in anyway.
Oh and another good thing, I can think on my feet better. See? Feet again. Thank you feet!
So now I'm enjoying post-work life. There's actually a lot I want to do, but time seems to be running out. Only one more month before school starts. I'm actually quite scared by the prospect of starting school. Can you imagine the relationships you have to start to rebuild, the idea of meeting people, the workload when I haven't been using my brains in the academic sense for 6 months, the list goes on.
Sigh.
Oh and The Amazing Race starts next week! I'm so excited! Excited excited excited! I've been watching TAR4 re-runs at 3am and it's gearing me up for the new season! Excited!!!
7th July 10pm!!!

Today, I had the misfortune to meet an aggressive, arrogant, demanding, insensitive and pushy bitch.
She was making insinuations about ME on a very sensitive topic. Of course I was highly insulted and I took offence. But that aggressive bitch kept forcing me to agree to something that I absolutely didn't want to do and she doesn't seem to understand what NO means.
Finally I couldn't stand it anymore. All her subtle hints and accusations were very hurtful and driving me nuts. It was really really very very very traumatic for me. So I unleashed the weapons that alot of people are afraid of. TEARS! Wahahahaha.
OK as a rule, I hate crying and crying in public and in front of other people (probably because I think crying is weak) and using that as a point of weakness on other people but I didn't do it intentionally anyway. She was really damn 过分 and made me feel as big as an ant. But anyway I can't deny that it worked because she immediately backed off. But I'm not very proud of the fact that I did that. In fact in retrospect I think it's just stupid and freaking weak of me to act like the way I did. -ashamed look-
But I still can't stand people like her, being so insensitive and rude just to achieve something that they want. Go and drown yourself in a well lah. I hope you get herpes/syphilis/AIDS/etc and you start balding at 25 and your teeth all drop out before you get to enjoy your riches. And I hope you get get boils all over your body and you suffer from some unknown illness that won't be cured. And that you'll rot in the North Pole for 七七四十九天 and freeze to death or disintegrate with the ozone layer, which ever comes first, you rude stupid bitch. GARH.
What I just typed might put me at risk in being condemned to hell or something but I think she deserves that punishment that I've just listed!!! (And I think it's probably too mild for her.)
Anyway anyway, I got a job lasting for 5 days at the Expo!
I think it's sales, which is something I'm not really enthusiatic about, but at least I'll get to earn money, and at this juncture I can't afford to be picky. Considering my financial constrains. :(
Oh yah don't ask me about the rude bitch if you ever see me. I'd like to forget about that traumatic and unpleasant experience.

Today (technically yesterday), I went cycling at Sentosa with the dear girls.
And if you want to cycle, don't go to Sentosa! There's so much construction work going on and the bicycle tracks are few and hidden.
Random thought: How come it's "Today I went cycling" and not "Today I go cycling"? Since it's "Today" means it's in the present tense right?
Just for the kick of it and the cheap thrill of knowing I have 1 gigabyte worth of space online to store rubbish, I went to sign up for a gmail account.
So it's hahaheehee at gmail dot com :)
I lost one of my old emails, the hahaheehee@smileyface.com one, so I shall make do with this.
And dare I say this, but I am very very very excited about the Ichee Hotel Rendezvous (I shall term it as that for now), especially with the promise of very intriguing activites. I feel much more excited about it than the other hotel.
See, good cheap fun with the company of wonderful friends vs expensive high class fun with the company of wonderful friends.
Which one wins?
Of course the good cheap fun, lah.
Hahahahaha :)
Cheapskate cheapskate cheapskate cheapskate cheapskate cheapskate cheapskate cheapskate.
And I am making this comment from a purely unbiased and impartial viewpoint. -meaningful look-

My father is such a brave soul.
He helped capture the offending cockroach in just mere seconds when I usually take about 10 minutes trying to tackle one roach.
Yeah, another cockroach invaded the study room again. And I now know how they get in.
They fly in through the window.
Bah.
Do not underestimate the flying skills of cockroaches. This roach can apparently fly 10 levels up. Or maybe a neighbour upstairs threw it down?
Anyway, the room is full of cockroach trails. Shudder.
Happy Fathers' Day!

My parents want to watch The Best Bet tomorrow, the 拜六礼拜会不会开 (repeat ad nauseam) show. Actually I wouldn't mind watching, because it's a Saturday and I won't be the one paying for the movie tickets (oh I am such a cheapskate) but I'm going cycling with Ichee tomorrow.
After today's eating spree, I think I would be better off cycling than stuffing popcorn into my mouth. Haha.
After today's eating spree, I think I would be better off cycling than stuffing popcorn into my mouth. Haha.
Quote of the day: I am not overweight, I'm undertall.
Horrendous. I spent $80+ today and out of that, $60 was on food alone. -_____-"
I eat too much.
Here's a breakdown of what I ate: Tons of dim sum (we over-ordered) which of course includes the neccesities like har kau and etc. A plate of chee cheong fun, a dish of very very very milky ice cream, paper wrapped chicken, you tiao, fried wanton, blah blah blah. THEN, barely 5 hours later I ate fried calamari at Fish & Co (my 2nd time there), drank this Lime Googie thingee which is actually quite nice, and couldn't finish my main course of Fish and Chips.
Have you ever seen me not finishing my food?!
NO right!
I left most of my fries untouched and couldn't finish the fish.
So this proves that I'm not a bottomless pit after all.
Wahahahaha.
And because I'm not like dear Saint, who works too hard and doesn't have time to spend her money, I could only just watch, glassy-eyed, while she goes on a big shopping binge and I have to count the coins in my wallet.
I really need a job because I need money, but at the same time, there are too many activities going around now that I think having a job will just make things difficult for everyone.
Argh!
I'm expecting to blow another $100-$150 on Hotel Plan 1 and another $50-$100 on Hotel Plan 2. Arrrgghhh!!!!
Can I just hibernate at home?
The good news - I've spent a record breaking amount of $25 on transport so far this month! That is actually very miraculous.
$25!!! For 2 weeks and a few days! It's marvelous! I've saved tons of money!
OK I shall hibernate at home.
End of discussion.

Colourful Emotions
I am angry at being milked for my knowledge in certain areas because you are just too not pro-active for your own good.
I am broke because there will be 2 hotel stayovers (or soon-to-be broke, anyway).
I am excited because I'll finally get to go out with my very busy friend and wander along busy streets.
I am anxious because I still don't know which faculty I'm going to be in. It makes things difficult for me. How am I supposed to know which date I have to go for the health checkup and for matriculation?
I am lazy because my spirit is willing but my flesh is weak. I'm referring to exercising lah.
Let's try and play a rather chapalan version of "十字路口".
Broke --> Exasperated --> Disgruntled --> Disgusted --> Disturbed --> Dog --> Goat --> Tree --> Egg --> Girl --> Lion --> Nurse --> Elephant --> Terrible --> Evil --> Lalala --> Apple --> Effervescence --> Enigma --> Ammonia --> Appendicitis --> Si Yi --> Iodine --> Esters --> Sulphate --> E?????????
Can't think of any more E words. Want to contribute?

Was just watching Pop Idol and it's the commercial break now and there's something I need to exclaim about: Will Young has an uncanny resemblence to 东方比利!
Ahhhhh!!!
I can't stand 东方比利. But my mother adores him, goodness knows why. Bah.
And then when I have the misfortune to tune in to Love 972 during his show I hear all the aunties calling in and seeking his esteemed advice, telling him their sob-stories, and saying how wonderful he is and how they will miss him so (he's taking a year-long sabbatical leave). Bah.

Just to indulge in a silly need of mine that the cocktail personality below is incorrect (or rather, to defy the '5 parts beauty' statement), I've typed in many different names but they all are extremely unflattering except for:
Which is also not very flattering. So I shall come up with my own cocktail mix.
Listen Up!
How to make a TRUE-BLUE Si Yi cocktail
3 parts silliness
1 part craziness
2 parts stupidity
5 parts laziness
Add 8000 grams of fats. Blend in mixer. Add ice. Add a pinch of angst and bitchy-ness and as much happiness as desired!
Pour into short and fat glass cup.
Top with an umbrella and a slice of orange.
Ta-da! There you have it. A TRUE-BLUE Si Yi cocktail. It'll come out looking BLUE coz it's TRUE-BLUE. That's lame. Mwhahahahahaha.
Try it! It's super duper effective! :D

Admissions Anxiety
With all that suspicions on how come NUS FASS accepted me when I'm rather un-qualified (if I do say so myself) as compared to other people, imagine the horror when I received a letter from NUS School of Computing.
First thought: FASS rejected me!!!
Second thought: Did I not click the correct button for the online confirmation?
Third thought: Perhaps NUS made a mistake.
But, to put my mind at ease, I decided to call NUS up.
They gave me a rather feeble explanation but assured me that I wasn't rejected by FASS... so... WHEW.
Paranoia, paranoia.
Every little flicker in the room makes me glance around suspiciously, for fear that another cockroach will appear and wave it's feelers at me.
Recently the papers carried articles about admissions into NUS/NTU and in one of these articles it was reported that a girl with the same exact grades as me couldn't get into FASS and she had to be considered for the "special qualities" thingamig before she could get a place.
And all that talk about how FASS is not a dumping ground for folks with poor grades (i.e ME) anymore.
That makes me feel highly disconcerted.
How come I could get a place in FASS when other people, whose grades and qualifications and other character traits are definitely better than mine, couldn't?

Ugh. I just killed a cockroach 10mins ago.
I realize that this blog is getting saturated with my over-zealous descriptions of beetles/lizards/cockroaches escapades but that doesn't stop me from telling you my latest adventure with the cockroach. Hah.
Anyway, this is my first time trying to kill a cockroach. With the aid of lots and I mean lots of insecticide. I thought I was going to get insecticide poisoning. Hahaha. In fact I think I've released so much CFCs into the air I think the ozone layer has been significantly reduced (or do aerosol can-sprays come without CFCs nowadays?).
This room is reeking of insecticide. But better to sniff insecticide that to have a nasty roach lurking around the room. I wouldn't be able to play The Sims in peace.
My dear sister, if you can, please refrain from eating in the study room! It's luring unwanted pests like roaches! And this cockroach was humungous! You can go and check the dustbin for its exact size (asuming that the trash hasn't been emptied).
Since I'm visually-impaired at home (I don't wear my glasses at home), I mistook the roach for a giant beetle. It crawled behind the aircon and immediately I rushed to get my specs and the insecticide. It disappeared for a while... then it wandered across the window pane and hid behind the curtain. Which is dangerously near the computer. I started spraying. It twitched a bit and ran to my sister's table and I sprayed somemore insecticide. It ran to my half of the table and almost ran onto my Winnie the Pooh cross stitch which I stuck on the wall. Bah. And it almost collided with my Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (I've been re-reading it). Bahhhhh. (Refer to Exhibit A)
The adventurous cockroach streaked across the floor and went into hiding under the computer table. (Refer to Exhibit A) I've been faithfully spraying insecticide all this while while it was running for its life. When it was twitching nervously on the floor I gave it full blast. Pssssssssssssssssst.
Psssssssssssssssssssssssssst.
The repulsive roach laid on its back with it's legs kicking in the air.
Meanwhile I was trying to think of how to dispose of the offending creature. My first thought was to throw it out of the window but I guess it wouldn't be nice if the cockroach fell 10 storeys and landed on someone walking downstairs. So I took a couple of newspapers and started slamming the cockroach (I hope I didn't wake the neighbours downstairs) to make sure that it was really dead before I made my next move. Er, perhaps I was too aggressive in slamming because the poor roach literally became 五马分尸. I sort of detached it's feelers and legs and stuff... er.
I still didn't dare to go too near the cockroach because it was still twitching (I realize that cockroaches are highly resilient creatures) so I tried my very best to think of a way to dispose of the carcass. Anyway, the worse has been done, and I vacuumed up the other spare parts (i.e. legs and feelers) and one of the legs was still clinging onto the floor. Not even the suction of the vacuum cleaner was strong enough to remove it. Gah.
In fact killing cockroaches make me perspire all over from the force exerted. I had to go and take a shower after that.
OK, so now I present to you... EXHIBIT A!
The route of how the offending cockroached tried to escape.
This is a layout plan of the study room.

Sigh. I am now in no mood to play The Sims. Anyway the family that I've been playing for 130-something Sim Days went bonkers. The game keeps crashing. Bah.
And seriously my life has never been so boring. If the most exciting news happening nowadays is the fact that I killed a cockroach, you can expect what the rest of my days are like.
Snore.
OK, maybe with the exception that I'm watching The Amazing Race repeats at 3am every weekday. But I assure you I'm completely sane.

Blogger has a nasty habit of eating up half of the HTML code for my template.
I wonder why.
I still can't get into the website which I'm supposed to go to to confirm which university I want to attend.
So if anyway has accepted both NTU and NUS's offer, and has received a letter from them to confirm your choice, can you tell me if you can access the website too?
I don't want to end up nowhere in the end.

Went to watch the long-awaited Harry Potter movie today.
After the whole thing, I felt somewhat...
Cheated.
Like after all the rave reviews and all the talk about how HP3 is much better than the previous two, I think it's rather lacklustre compared to the book.
I think reading the book is seriously better. It leaves much more to the imagination, it's clearer, and it's so much more detailed.
But watching movies appeal to visual effects, no? So I guess I'll rate it 3.5 stars out of 5.
Haha Ron is so cute and amusing. Hermione is blossoming into a fine young lady and Harry... er, Harry is still the same lah but perhaps he's more angst-ridden.
But if you want angst you should read Book 5. Full of darkness and angst.
I spent the hours after the movie dissecting the show, explaining stuff that was missing out in the movie and revealing bits of plots in Book 4 and 5 to my two clueless friends who have not read the book.
Anyway I think Ron and Hermione should be together. They are so cute together hahaha. :)
Enough about Harry Potter.
I'm pleased to announce that the plans for the glow-in-the-dark bowling alley has been dropped. Yay! Yay! Hooray for my friends who have finally come to their senses!
And I haven't been doing much these few days. Just checking out the Classified Ads Recruit section, going to employment websites and watching TV.
Went for the occasional jog, but I haven't swam in 2 weeks! and I resolve to go swimming tomorrow.
My mom wants to go cycling on Thursday! Whoop-dee-doo. I love cycling. :)
I'm hungry! (only popcorn for dinner, sigh.) I want to eat Hokkien Mee!!!

Ahhhh.
I am such a goon.
I received a letter from the universities telling me to choose between either one of them because I'm taking up precious enrolment vaccancies. There is a horrible URL that I'm supposed to key in to get to the webpage. Horribly long URL. So I tried keying in the horrible URL twice and couldn't get to the designated page and I re-read the letter.
It says that I should only try to access that webpage from 7th June.
Ahhhh. So blur. Hahaha.
Anyway, I have this enormous and strong dislike for the word "clique". It sounds very offensive and snobbish and elitist (?) to me.
Like, "me and my clique are going to Sentosa to sun-tan" or "I just celebrated my birthday with my clique".
Sounds so stuck-up. Argh.
(And we can all stick out our tongues and go nyah-nanny-poo-poo.)
I'm not against having a very close group of friends that you do everything with (actually I think I belong to this category) but sometimes having so-called "cliques" will cause other people to be alienated -- whether intentionally or not.
I just dislike the word. Arrrgggghhh abolish it from the English Language!
Going off a tangent, I went to get a haircut today! Yay!
But unfortunately I think my hair resembles Ken Zhu's (of F4 fame). Oh horrors!
Especially when I try to struggle with my unruly fringe to achieve that "windswept look".
Oh well I think I should go and cut some China Doll fringe for a change. Mwahaha.
The lizard chase - a story on How NOT to Kill Lizards
A lizard escaped under the piano just now. *shudder*
We (well actually my sister) tried to drug the lizard with insecticide. For those who think that insecticide can't kill lizards -- well you're right. Haha. But I think they'll cause lizards to feel all woozy and giddy (at least that's what I observed from the lizard in question) and it'll stone there for a while, giving you ample time tomurder get rid of it.
Unfortunately the lizard in question had to stone in one corner flat on the ceiling so that my father couldn't smash it with a rolled-up newspaper.
When the woozy lizard became clear-minded, it ran away for its dear life, obviously. It ran to the bear sitting on top of the TV set and my mom flung the bear to the floor.
The lizard ran across the floor (and note: all this happened during the all important Rose Ceremony and I was too preoccupied with the escaping lizard to pay attention to who Bob gave the rose to) and ran under the piano. Damn! Luckily I was standing on the sofa a safe distance away.
So after all the swiping under the piano (and thus effectively resulting in a lot of dust) and spraying insecticide under the piano I think the poor instrument has gone very out of tune.
But that's not the main point.
The main point is, the lizard has not resurfaced to date and when I want to thump a hearty tune on the piano I have to be very cautious. What if the lizard escaped into the inside of the piano where all the hammers and strings are? What if I start tinkling on the ivory keys and the hammers inside smash the lizard dead? Can you imagine a dead lizard inside the piano?!
Ahhhh!
Plus what if the lizard decides to show it's pretty face to me when I'm playing the piano? How am I supposed to get rid of it?!
So traumatizing.
Hahahahahahaha. :D

New layout!
I don't think it's very nice though.
Prefer the Pink food one. But I need some change.
So ta-da!
Er, the picture is supposed to be some yellow taxi. (Or is it a yellow van? A yellow bus?) I realized that it might not be so clear with all the words plastered over it like ants.
And I realized that I cannot photo-blog with this layout. My pictures end up looking opaque and blur and it blends with the taxi cartoon behind.
So.
I'll think of another new layout soon. Right now, I lack creativity.
I realize my layouts all look the same!
I mean if you've been reading this blog since its humble beginnings and have seen all the different layout changes you'll know what I mean.
Bah.
Oh but I managed to revive my Slurps (now known as taxis). But the cute mood-reflective picture has to go because it's causing my slurps/taxis to die.
Yah. But I still think it's an ugly layout.
Shall go fetch my little sister home now.

Went for the Food Festival at the Expo on Tuesday.
Was very very crowded.
But the bargain of the day was being able to eat chilli crab (without the crab) with fried mantou!!! Ahhhh!!! Bliss!
One day I must go to Jumbo and eat chilli crab with the crab and fried mantou!
I love chilli crab! :)
Unfortunately, conversation tended to be very one-sided sometimes because I was not from the same school as them and naturally, couldn't join in their conversation.
But you can just give me food and I'll be quite happy (for a while).
Have been trying to upload photos of the cruise to imagestation for days but somehow the thing is mad and doesn't accept my emailed pictures. ???!!! WHY?! :( So irritating.

Garh my Slurps aren't working.
I've lots of things to do, but I don't know where to start.
I want to cut my hair, go swimming, play The Sims, source the Classified ads for a job, and make a new layout for my blog.
Heh heh perhaps it's good that I'm unemployed after all.
And did I mention? I went to weigh myself at the gym on the cruise (finally!) and the reflected digital reading was too scary to comprehend.
I think the machine is spoilt. (self-denial)

What does being left-brained mean? It means I'm more inclined to the Arts or to the Sciences?
Anyway, I got a phone call from a classmate that I haven't seen for 3 years and was particularly surprised. Because I was never very close to the classmate in the first place, and suddenly there's this mysterious person on the line calling to ask, "Oh, how are you? Long time no see... blah blah blah." That's so sudden and out of the blue. And strikes me as rather... awkward (and fake).
But if it were to be a good friend I wouldn't feel so shocked.
In fact, we'll have tons to talk about and catch up on.
Such is the difference between fair-weather friends/acquaintances and very good friends.
How funny people are, don't you think?
Year after year people you meet randomly promise to "keep in contact" and when they actually have the courage to do so (and how often is that, anyway), you feel misplaced and out of sorts.
Perhaps when you've gotten used to having them out of your life (possibly for good) and adapting to new things and stuff they decide to come back and spring a surprise on you and maybe disrupt your life a little. Hence the funny "HURH?!" feeling.
Or maybe it's just me.
I love to live in my own comfort zone and I dislike changes.
I went to NUS to hand in Form A on Monday and was a bit intimidated by the vast-ness (?) of the campus.
Tiny little me in this big school where people are swarming around, looking busy, chattering, laughing, studying. I cannot imagine myself in that situation.
Too overwhelming.
Anyway anyway, I finally got to watch the finals of American Idol yesterday. Unfortunately I read something that I shouldn't have online, and it spoilt my suspense totally!!! Boohooo :(
So Fantasia won!
I actually prefer Diana with her big voice and lots of high long notes but I think it's because I am too used to such typical singers a la Christina Aguilera and the likes.
So! I must be versatile! Adaptable! Or I'll become a square.
What does the St. Nicks student pledge say anyway? Was there anything about versatility and being able to adapt? I can't remember. *shameful look*
Oh and the favourite mantra of 校长's:
温文尔雅,高贵大方,谦恭有礼; 入得厨房,出得厅堂.
Right.
Tell me if I have achieved any of that.
