Internet Explorer is workable again! Wheee!
Finally. I get access to the computer! Everyone's been hogging it ever since I woke up and now I get some time to spend with this precious machine.
Then I wanted to blog but I was tempted by the lure of pizza. Who can resist pizza? So I'm now blogging in between slices of pizza, hahaha.
Amazing how this machine plays such an important role in my life. I was so bored just now. I finished reading two books and then I was just rotting around with nothing better to do.

Anyway, it is crucial that I blog today because today's a special day! Haha, it's Feb 29th and it comes only once in 4 years so by the time 2008 comes I might not be blogging anymore so as a record I shall blog today! Hahaha I am becoming senile.

I dreamt about my A level results again last night and again, I dreamt that I failed my GP. And Chem. Sigh!

Was my blog of such a bright shade of orange before? After that bout of pink everything looks bright to me.

Okay. My mom's friend's slacker son got 10 points for his O levels. My sis got 8. My friend's brother got a perfect score of 6.
Geez! It's time for me to re-examine myself. An even bigger slacker than me managed to get 10!

Anyway, I sort of screwed up my Science Centre job interview (I told them like-poles attract like-poles! X___X This is what happens when you don't take Physics for a year) but they still want me in so I suppose they must be pretty short-handed and desperate for manpower. Anyhow, if anyone is interested in working at United Square from 12-14th March for the Science Centre Roadshow or is good at dealing with kids, please SMS me. I will gladly provide you with the details. Don't call my handphone! Thank you. :)

Boredom strikes.

When was the last time you...
1. ...went to the doctor?
Early January

2. ...went to the dentist?
December 2002

3. ...filled your gas tank?
N/A

4. ...got enough sleep?
Yesterday

5. ...backed up your computer?
Never

Aiyo. Boring questions.
Next.

I found a picture of my new and improved primary school.

It looks weird, honestly. Where's the covered walkway? Where's the assembly area? Where's the canteen? The porch? The music room? The hall?

Even if I wanted to go back for a friendly visit it'll feel unfamiliar and strange. Now all the memories I have of Primary School are vague and fuzzy. Sigh.

Oh bugger. I forgot about the William Hung special that was showing 2 Sundays ago. Or was it last Sunday?

My life now revolves around TV, TV and more TV... and reading, of course. I borrowed a book called The Virgin Suicides. The title sounds fascinating. And I am morbid. Bwhahaha.

What in the world would I do without humour?

OK I am going jogging tomorrow.
I have determination and self-discipline. *chants* Ooommm....

Well what do you know. I feel a cough developing. I can taste the nasty aftertaste of disgusting phelgm in my throat. And I have about a ton of sores in my mouth. I hate ulcers.

I feel very attracted to song lyrics nowadays. I dunno why.

I am facing a little dilemma here.

I went to dictionary.com to check out the meaning of dilemma.
A dilemma, according to them, is
1) a situation that requires a choice between options that are or seem equally unfavorable or mutually exclusive.
2) a problem that seems to defy a satisfactory solution.
3) an argument that presents two alternatives, each of which has the same consequence.

Back to my dilemma. My little problem is quite simple actually. It's a choice between attending the NUS open house or taking up a job that pays $60 a day.

The pros of attending the open house would be of course, the additional knowledge (or maybe not) of the courses that I want to take in the future. But then again, my to-do list states that I need to think seriously about my future plans and right now I have no idea what I want to do. So if I go there with the hope that I might be enlightened by attending those talks, then it'll be beneficial. But the obvious con here is that I might end up still not knowing what I want to do. I will be just going there with a blank mind and hoping that something would fall on me and I will go "Ohhh!!! This is the thing that I've waited all my life to study!!!"
If that doesn't happen (and it's highly possible that it won't happen) then my time should have been better spent earning $180.

But then again, last year I went for the open house, and I didn't learn anything much. All I remembered was being stuck in a traffic jam on my way there, and falling asleep during the business course talks.

'O' level results are coming out this Friday, or so I heard. My sister's getting her results, and if it's good we'll be going on a shopping spree. Yay. But anyway I'm sure she can do better than my 11 points (this is not meant to stress you out, sis).

On the other hand, I'm not too sure when the 'A' level results will be out, but I hope it's not anytime after the 4th because I have to work. Just let me see something decent like BBB or CCC or BCC or ABC and the likes and don't let me fail GP and I'll be content.
I am not even feeling remotely nervous or panicky, despite knowing that my fate has been sealed, when every other Year 3 student might be worrying their brains out.
During Talentime someone asked me, "Are you scared?" I was wondering if he was asking whether I was scared of the bad singing, but then I finally figured he was asking about The Results Day.
"Not really," I said with a nonchalant shrug. For the life of me I was wondering what he had to feel scared about, when he'll probably graduate with 4As and fly out of school singing at the top of his lungs.
And since The Day is coming, we see some PMS-ing going on, or maybe in this case, it's perpetual PMS-ing. And Moodiness. And the now famous Black Face. I tell you, it totally ruins the mood. Sure, you can frown the whole day long and think of how many boxes of tissues you want to bring in case you'll cry your eyes out, but it gets annoying after a while. Highly irritating. And I seldom get irritated, so you know I'm not merely PMS-ing. Just move on with life, can't you?

I know, I'm being a mean, insensitive, unfeeling and heartless person. Maybe I'll be the one bringing tissues to school to honk into instead.

No more work, no more waking up early, no more of the longing-to-sleep feeling during office hours, no need to spend money on coffee and lunch.
Everything's perfect.

Except for a teeny weeny minor flaw: I'm bored at home.

Geez. I should just re-examine myself and tell myself that 知足常乐 is the way to go.

Anyway, I went jogging on Monday and my thunder thighs are aching now. I am horribly, horribly unfit. I think I didn't even run 2.4km and my legs felt rubbery. Yes they felt jelly-like! Now I know what people mean when they say "my legs turned into jelly".

Next stop on my plan: the gym! Swimming! Jogging twice a week! Cycling would work too, but I don't have a bike.

5 steps to a fitter and healthier me! (I sound like a cheesy advertisment jingle.)

Something's wrong with Internet Explorer. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Talentime was ok. Wasn't fantastic but still OK. The winner last year won again this year, and bagged the champion title in all three categories. The juniors scraped the dance category and had a band category instead. Halfway through the show, I could somewhat imagine the winner on Singapore Idol. Wahahahaha.
Other interesting tidbits would be that my ex-year 1 civics tutor was a judge and also singing as a guest performer. -___-"

On the way home, I suddenly had a strong urge to play in the SO concert. Everything about the school is still the same, but there's still this unfamiliar feeling like you don't really belong now. There's a new rubbery track, a new vice-principal and many new juniors. I would like to see who's who, to play once again (I kinda missed playing), to indulge in the oh-so-familiar routine that I used to complain and gripe about, and horrors, when I walked out of school by the main gate I think I even missed the stupid school. Eek. I definitely miss the drab grey uniform and my friends and how life used to be. But er, it never really occured to me that I will miss the school just like how I was pinning to go back to SN for the first few months of JC life. I am turning into a sentimental fool.

Yesterday was the REHK day celebration, which meant that I get to spend some quality time with my good friends and had a blast Karaoking and eating. Yummm. If any Karaoke addicts want to cure themselves of the habit, just go Karaoking for 5 hours straight and I guarantee that you'll stay away from Karaoking for at least a month or two.
We saw cheesy MTVs, cheesy dance steps, boring English MTVs about the birds and trees, and had fun yodeling outrageous out-of-tune and screaming our heads off. In my opinion, that's how Karaoke should be. Not taking the mike and then singing like a wannabe-pop star. That takes the fun out of everthing. That's more for future Singapore Idols.

Then we had our good ol' gossiping/bitching session with lots of food at a coffeeshop. Yes, not a very condusive or romantic place, but I firmly believe that it's the company that matters, not the place.

As of now, I'm happily unemployed! *balloons and streamers* I shall read, enjoy some good thumping on the piano, watch tv, eat maggi mee, and exercise! Been putting that away long enough. Then I think I have to give tuition later at night. Heard my auntie is having some financial problems, and I think I'm adding on to her burden as she has to pay me tuition fees on top of her bills and stuff. Hmmm.

Apt. Very.
Wahahaha. I am suffering from an overdose of Karaoke. Songs swarming in my head now.

I must exercise tomorrow. Damned if I don't.

Oh, and if you need to contact me for some reason, do not call my handphone. I repeat, DO NOT call my handphone.
I would prefer SMSing, because I get 700 free and I might as well utilize all of it. My mother is having a fine time nagging at me about my ghastly expenditures, my ATM card, my horrendous phone bill, and everything else. I do not wish to see this pattern continuing so if you really need to call dial my house number!

And don't invite me out for social gatherings (though Auntie, I would consider Along Came Polly) because I don't feel like it and I do not have the means to support such an affluent lifestyle.
Thank you for your attention.

I'm starting to feel impatient... exasperated... with things. Stuff. People.
I guess after so long they've finally rubbed off me the wrong way. Yes hahaha I take very long to realize that.
I have such a bad attitude. :(
Or maybe it's the hormones!

Anyway, dinner with ichee was marvelous, even though I may have to choke on bread everyday now. Hahahahahaha.
Oh and I love the very-overdue birthday book. :)

I haven't felt so happy in such a big group for... quite some time.

I'm going for a job interview tomorrow! Wish me luck :)

My crazy friends are planning to go for a weekend cruise next weekend. I wish them luck in their planning.
-___-"

I am very very very confused by bank accounts. :(

They are offering the snake to us so I am jumping at this chance to "eat snake".

I wonder why people like to push the blame to others when it is their fault. Or even if it isn't their fault, it doesn't mean that other people are at fault. Perhaps it's just the bad timing, or it's because everyone neglected that tiny little bit that's essential for success, or communication problems. Most often than not it's the communication. Humans do not know how to communicate properly.

I always wonder how I should react or what I am expected to say when a piece of seemingly oh-so-important/great/wonderful/startling information is revealed (hear the drumrolls). Have you experienced it before? Especially when the person delivering the news has this Look -- one that says "Oh, I don't exactly want to boast about it, but you gotta admit that it's really wonderful news, so it'll be nice if you can praise/gush/exclaim over it."

China students (the girls especially), seem to be very conscious of their weight.
Exclaimations over whether they've put on weight, whether they slimmed down, whether they are dieting, etc. seem to be the focus of their conversations.

The person i/c is at a meeting and it'll be foolhardy if we just burst in so...
I have nothing to do that's why I'm just rambling, so Gillian, don't ask me "What's with the entry about ____?" again.

In the afternoon:
I managed to get rid of the stale cheese smell, managed to tame my hair somewhat, am currently not reading 2mm lines because the server is down, and sort of got by without another cup of coffee.

But, I almost got a brain concussion, my highlighter committed suicide, I spent lunch listening to people talk about how scared they are because the results are coming out in 2 weeks time, and then listening to even more talk about university courses, and had a woman glare at me because I am not the receptionist.

Oh, and the person i/c might offer us another week at this job. I am not too sure whether to accept or to decline politely, because:
1.1) it's only for a week more, and I need more money
1.2) she said we won't be doing what we are doing right now (which is reading figures from lines that are 2mm tall and staring at the computer till your eyes pop out). We will be doing paperwork, attendance compiling, and blah.
1.2.1) Which doesn't sound very exciting.
2.1) I have resolved to terminate this agony of dragging myself out of bed ever since I started work so another week of squeezing with the folks at Raffles Place on the MRT is as appealing as watching grass grow.
2.2 ) I don't want to work anymore :(

I smell like a piece of stale cheese, my fringe is falling all over the place, I am sick of reading lines that are 2mm tall and I'm finishing my coffee.

I am still waiting for my pay!
Feed me money!

I am counting down in anticipation when I can say Goodbye to my job. 3.5 more torturous days! Although looking at the workload that has magically appeared... I don't think we can finish on time.

I bumped into some of my Sec 4 classmates in town today. They weren't exactly close friends, but we got along OK. You know when you're in a class of 41, everyone gets into these little groups and they just interact with no one else but each other? Yeah only that I wasn't really a part of anyone because I used to have the personality of a snail and kept to myself most of the time. Plus I was seen as either a sidekick or a "half", and led a pretty boring life. It wasn't until JC that I started having a so-called social life. Anyway, I don't exactly miss any of them and I don't bother keeping contact.

So why am I telling my sad life story? I have no idea either. But I'm glad for the way things turned out, going to different schools and all, being on my own, meeting new people.
If I went to the other JC, things might have turned out differently -- I'll be stuck in the same circle of friends, I'll be still labelled as a half, and I wouldn't have met Ichee.

I bought a pair of shoes today, because my old, smelly pair broke and I had to hobble all over Raffles Place with a spoilt right shoe.

Nowadays, I'm thinking of nothing much, except when I will get my pay. You see a financially deprived girl here.

Yay, check out my blog in all it's pink glory :)

Despite the festival for hearts and flowers and chocolates, and what with love being in abundance everywhere, V-day did not go too well for me. Because of a matter of bad planning, bad timing, bad location and overestimation (probably coupled with a few too unrealistic ideas), the whole selling-thingamig was a flop.

And then everyone was so terribly awkward because you can read it in their faces -- they were desperately trying to salvage the situation because none-too-happy looks were thrown around, and a black thunderstorm was brewing silently on the bench. So you see lots of act-preppy and oh-everything's-fine and it's-roses-hearts-and-flowers faces.
I don't know where I fit into this whole mess.

So guess what I had for dinner on V-day?
Cup noodles from 7-11. Yay.
But at least I don't have to spend a bomb on a dinner that would suck me dry of my money. That is a consolation. :D

This V-day will not go down in history as a memorable one.

Anyway, couples were everywhere yesterday. I never knew that there were sooo many couples. Even though I'm perfectly fine with being a happy single, it seemed like all those pairings joined at the hip were like "Nyah nyah, I'm part of a Couple and it's an exclusive thing, and you're not part of it!" @_@
It feels terribly weird to be in the middle of the train and everyone's like gazing lovey-dovely into their significant half's eyes. Shudder.
Anyway, the most irritating thing has got to be when couples hog the entire passage way of the escalator/travelator. There was this couple holding hands on the travelator at Dohby Ghaut and I wanted to walk past them, because everyone was just jammed up behind them. So I said "Excuse me" in a none-too-friendly tone and interrupted their lovefest. And cut right into the middle of their holding hands. Wahahahahaha.

Erm well, happy V-day.
I changed the colours to fit the occasion but as you can see, it didn't turn out too well.
I don't have much time to work out all the kinks in the coding, so pardon the eyesore. :D

It just irks me so when someone speaks about you loudly on the telephone/to some relative/behind your back/in front of you and yet treating you as though you're invisible.
And worse still, I get the suspicion that the conversation is purposely being blasted loudly and directed at me as I detect a cresendo in the level of voice and of all times, it had to be when I was watching American Idol.
I just grabbed the remote and turned up the volume of the TV.
No point listening to my demerits being announced to anyone who is interested enough to bother.

I hate it when someone exaggerates without even knowing the truth of the situation.
There is really no point in bragging, is there?
So what if you know everything? It doesn't make you any more superior.
And it's plain ridiculous to listen to a know-it-all who in actual fact, doesn't know anything at all.

My computer just threatened to hang on me, and if this post is gone, I'm going to smash the screen. Grrrrrrrr.
As you can imagine, I am not in the best of moods.

I have 28 cousins!

I have come up with a theory on why I usually can get past doing stuff (for example, sleeping during class/work) and others won't notice a single thing.
That's besides the fact that I have small eyes.

It's because I'm too ordinary a person. Nobody pays any attention to ordinary people. Ordinary people are forgetable. They do not leave a lasting impression. Others usually treat ordinary people as someone invisible or not worthy of a second look.

Compare your average Joe to a famous politician. If a murder was committed, and ordinary Joe happened to be at the crime scene, passers-by would not be able to describe him to the authorities because there's nothing much to be remembered. Average height, average build, average features. This description fits about 80% of the population.
On the other hand, if the famous politicain was spotted at the crime scene, many, if not most, would say "Mr Famous was there! I spotted him! You can ask other people and they will tell you that they saw Mr Famous there too!"
Mr Famous, being a famous person, attracts attention wherever he goes. He is easily recognizable. If he were to commit a crime, the probabilty of him being found out would be higher. The probability of ordinary Joe being found out would be lower.
Not that the murderer would ultimately run away scot free, but you get my meaning.
(I have been reading too mnay Stephanie Plum-bounty hunter extraordinaire books.)

That's why, usually after a fleeting glance, no one would pay any attention to me. Not that I'm complaining. Being treated as invisible or barely-there is good. Because most of the time I'm left to my own devices. So I can sleep discreetly without being found out, blog discreetly at work, and do everything else discreetly.
Isn't that wonderful?

Like they say, 平凡也是一种幸福.

I was just thinking what a glorious morning it was, sitting here sipping my diluted coffee, with free access to the internet, and most importantly, not having any one mistake me for the receptionist for a full 1.5 hours.
Then this man steps out of the lift with a gigantic camera in hand, and takes a photo of the shiny golden words just above me.
"Do you have the form for the courses...?" lady asks.
I try not to look too bored repeating the same thing for the nth time.
"No, but you can just go into the office." I extend my arm vaguely in the direction of the office.

Same for FedEx delivery men, "I-have-an-appointment" clients, and other people who think that the girl with the Paddington Bear T-shirt is the receptionist.

Other than having a noisy work area and interruptions and problems with the stupid laptop, sitting here at the receptionist desk is wonderful. I can sit in any way I want and no one would care. I can even flash my underpants and no one would know.
I'm kidding about the underpants, of course.

To digress a bit, I think the Finance department cannot file their stuff properly.

For the sole purpose of reducing monotany at work:

A shephard's boy Heratius Hull
Found tending sheep a trifle dull
He could have studied Botany
To help reduce monotany
Instead to give the town a fright
He called "Wolf, wolf!" with all his might

The townsfolk seizing stick and rock
Ran up, of couse, to save his flock
"Ah-ha!" came Hull's delighted shout
"I fooled you! There's no wolf about."

The next day, a wolf with ___ fangs
Espied a sheep. He crouched, and sprang!
"Mercy me! Goodness gracious!"
Cried the much dismayed Heratius
"Help! Wolf, wolf! Come quick! Come quick!"
But none arrived with stone or stick
He'd tricked the town, the foolish dunce
But he could only do it, once!

A liar's not to be believed, forsooth
Even when he tells the truth.

******

This is all the way from Primary 6. Not bad, considering that I only forgot 1 word.
I had to read this to my fussy English teacher and he made me pronounce "the truth" to perfection. In the HOD room in front of all other teachers, no less. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for my speech now. Mwhahaha.
Chrysan, you might remember this poem :)

I've been feeling drowsy since I started work. I brought my own cup, teaspoon and coffee today. To ration the coffee so that it'll last longer, my coffee now tastes a little diluted, but nonetheless it still perked me up a little.
Enough for me to stay awake and type this. Haha.

Alright. Back to work.
Will blog more later.

My personality is rated 31.
What is yours?
quiz by midgetfarm.com

Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

I know I did this quiz before.

The weekend's almost over, because I will spend half my Sunday sleeping and then Monday will come in no time.
And then work again! *mumble grumble*

Sitting in some corner of Raffles Place, eating ice cream and a huge gigantic sandwich, lounging around, relaxing while reading a book has got to be one of the greatest pleasures in life. To me, at least. Despite the bustling crowd you usually see during lunch hour on weekdays, it can get rather peaceful on a Saturday afternoon and then you just remain blissfully oblivious to the few souls that are scattered around the area. Quite a refreshing change.
I should make this a habit for the next few Saturdays.

I'm feeling a little hungry now. Despite having baked rice/pasta/fries/ice cream for dinner just now. Hahahaha.

I used to think students from China were the typical obedient and industrious kind.
Since this place is swarming with China students, I've concluded that the one-child policy has bred a new generation of spoilt Chinese kids.

Sometimes I can't help it if I happen to overhear things. I don't consider that eavesdropping, hahaha. And it's good to know more about the conditions and settings of the place you work in so that you won't feel like an ignorant fool half the time. I'm still trying to match names to faces.
And as the free-of-charge receptionist I suppose it'll be good to know people in the office, especially if someone comes up to me and says "I'm here to meet Mr. XXX. I have an appointment with him at 2pm."
Also, I need to brush up my Chinese because everyone here is speaking Chinese effortlessly and fluently because like I mentioned, this place is swarming with China students.

The characters in the office are real interesting. There's a lecturer with a wacky sense of humour and lots of political innuendos peppered in his speech.
Yesterday, another guy was happily prancing about and talking to me about the $10 million Toto prize.
Then they were discussing about shirts, flowers, a carnation left on the windscreen of his car, blah blah blah. It's very entertaining to listen to on a dreary day at work. I was laughing to myself while staring at the computer screen listening to them talk.

That's what makes this world so interesting. Ah, the characters of life.

Spontaneous blogging doesn't come to me anymore.

Little incidents and events crop up during the day, and I store it at the back of my mind as a future blog topic.
I actually think of what I want to type beforehand. Carefully plotting, the words forming in my head.
Makes me feel like I'm blogging for an audience and not for myself.
I suppose it kills the essence of blogging hahaha.

It's sad to plan and plot everything that you want to say in advance.
Just like how we like to plan our paths -- go to Primary school, go to Secondary school, go to JC, go to University, get a job, and work your life away.
It probably means that I am unable to think on my feet and to react on the spot. And to embrace life hahaha.
But aiyah. Who cares.

I shall leave whatever stuff I want to say for next time.
Maybe I'll blog during work tomorrow, during those dull periods when I'm so sleepy I want to plop my head down on the table and sleep, just like what I always do during those many free periods in the String Orch room.

I'm sleeping earlier nowadays, which is good. But I still hate waking up early though.
I shall try not to depend too much on caffeine.

I discovered more files.
Files stacked high up on shelves, files stashed in drawers, files hidden neatly in cabinets.

And then they get a receptionist FOC in the package too. The only good things that occur in the day is 1) Lunch Time, 2) Me sneaking online and 3) 6pm when I knock off.

I do not ever want to see a file again after this month-long stint. I do not want to take up such a mindless job ever again.
