A new Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer here!

I dreamt that I got retrenched from my part-time job because of "rising oil prices". Like Huh???

I went to Mediacorp to collect the tickets yesterday. The man held out the tickets face-down and I picked a pair of $58 tickets! And my mom agreed to work for me today. Was so worried that I couldn't attend the concert because nobody could cover for me.

Okie dokes! I've got a driving lesson soon. Tata.

OMG OMG OMG!!!! HOLY COW!!!

I just won Superstar Concert tickets on Yes93.3!!!! OMG!!!

Am I lucky or am I lucky?!
Thank you lucky stars/guardian angel/four-leaved clover etc!

This is the 2nd time I've won something in radio contests! (First time was a CD in 2002.) Wah DAMN GOOD LUCK MAN!!!

I'm so excited! My heart is racing! My hands are clammy! My sister is asleep so she can't share my joy (we've been trying our luck for the past few days) but I went to wake her up anyway!
I want to hug someone and bounce up and down now!!!

Thank you Peifen for picking my name out of the many SMSes that were sent! Muack muack!!!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Can't believe it!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!

I went to IMH on Monday for a visit. It was really pleasant, kinda like a resort. I wouldn't mind working there next time. It's a stone's throw away from my grandmother's house, 20 minutes from my house and there is no peak hour traffic! Woohoo!

We sat through some talk by the CEO, a psychologist, a psychiatrist and an occupational therapist, followed by a tour around the compound. It wasn't very exciting though. I kinda wanted to go to the wards to have a look. Hehehehe.

The rest of my term-break was spent mostly on driving lessons. It poured almost everyday when I had lessons. Freak weather man. The sun's bright and hot when I leave my house but when I reach YCK all the dark clouds start appearing.

The Friendly Instructor I had on Wednesday's lesson chatted with me about everything and anything, including the lack of our love lives in 100 minutes. Hahaha. But most of all, Friendly Instructor made me feel good and eternally optimistic about myself. :)

I cut my hair on Tuesday and it really is quite short, but nevermind, my hair grows fast.

That is what I did during my term-break. Sigh, the toughest part of the semester is yet to come.

This is rather premature, but seeing the sheer amount of effort needed in planning, thinking, organizing and etc, I thought I'd be considerate and put up a wishlist! :)

So after thinking long and hard... hard and long... I have come up with a list! Please note that it is not comprehensive.

1. Hongbaos
I ask for this every year but every year nobody gives me this. Hongbaos are good! Just give me all the cash that you would take to spend on a present. But everybody says they are not qualified to give hongbaos. In that case, I also accept cheques and fund transfers. All for the sake of that iPod Nano/handphone/digital camera...
No one-cent coins please (looks at Saint and Empress).
I doubt anyone would take my words seriously so on to the next item...

2. Vouchers
Vouchers are the next best thing to a hongbao! Vouchers are good! As for the type of vouchers... clothes vouchers are good! Nowadays there's no more school uniform. Honestly I prefer the school uniform to own-wear. No need to think so much in the morning, especially when you are running late. Books vouchers... hmm I already bought Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, so there's no other books to buy... I don't mind getting Harry Potter books 1, 2 and 4 to complete the entire series. That's a bit waste money though, because I've already read them and I'll be buying them just to stuff them in my overcrowded bookshelves.

For some weird reason I am not in love with shoes like all other ladies. I suppose my mad-about-shoes genes got converted into a mad-about-earrings one. I only have that few pairs of footwear and I wear them till they rot and stink. Yeah so don't get me shoes.

3. Bags
Bags are good... anyway do they sell bags vouchers? A little bag that's big enough to hold my tupperware waterbottle but small enough just for going-out is good hehe.

4. Belts
Belts are good because all my jeans are dropping or maybe I am scared that they will reveal my granny underwear so yeah! My waist size is 29. Don't underestimate and get one that can't even wrap around half my waist.

5. Return airfare to Bangkok
Nowadays plane tickets very cheap right? Hahaha. This is inclusive of company, okay. No fun going alone.

6. A big lunch/dinner treat
Food's the way to my heart! Hahahaha. Pay for my meal at some posh looking place and I will be eternally grateful because I won't have to wash the bowls.

7. Bo liao stuff
Yeah this is where Empress and Saint come in. Quirky stuff, sick stuff, funny stuff, and just plain nonsensical stuff. I welcome them with open arms!

8. My own Karaoke set
So that I can annoy the hell out of my neighbours and compete with the uncle who likes to sing oldies loudly. :D

9. Something to shut my little sister up when she does her wailing thing at 2am
Maybe an orange will do.

10. And if all else fails...
You can always get me earrings. Haha you will never go wrong with that. :) No necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and whateverlets.

And if you decide not to get me a present, I will blacklist you and send a curse over your way. Hahahaha.

Giant packet of chips spotted at bus stop!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

***

A few schoolgirls from XXX school alighted from the bus and one group crossed the road, while the other group stayed on my side of the road.
The dialogue below is what I (and everyone in the surrounding blocks) overheard at the bus stop (it's a different bus stop from Giant Chips).

This girl hollers across the road to her friend (it was so loud I could hear the echo reverberating around the blocks of flats):

"大猪! I'll miss you!"

"大猪! 我爱你!"

"大猪! 打给你!"

Girl across the road shouts "大奶!"
Girl on my side shouts back "大猪!"

"大奶!"
"大猪!"
"大奶!"
"大猪!"
"大奶!"
"大猪!"

This goes on for a while...

The other people at the bus stop were staring uneasily at them...

And they carry on their friendly (and loud) banter. Still shouting across the road to each other.

"肥肉!"
"肥油!"
"大奶!"
*shouting match fades as they walk away*

(大奶-girl doesn't have 大奶 lor. I checked. Hahaha.)

Wah lao, is this how secondary school kids talk nowadays? This is their lingo? Got generation gap liao man. Tsk tsk tsk.

Full circle

My grandma would bring me to school when I was young. She was our main care-giver and a big nag. But I suppose all grandmothers are naggy.
Now she's older, and I'm older, and it's my turn to bring her home.
Her memory is failing and she can't recognize the places in the dark.

I used to be shorter than my grandma (that's quite an obvious statement) and she would grab me roughly by the wrist/arm/elbow and lead me across the road. I hated that.

Grandma wanted to give me $10.
In the past I would take it unabashedly. Now I would feel disgusted with myself if I accepted it. I don't even take money from my parents now, what more from my grandmother. $10, nothing 2 hours of work can't give me.

I am at the bus stop and I see a small dark figure peering over the 10th floor railing. I count the units and floors from where I am standing. I give a big wave and she waves back. Aw, so sweet, I think. Grandma wants to make sure that I board the bus safe and sound.

It was then, that I was glad that my mother made me send my grandmother back home.

Meet Grimace!

Seated like a king

If you are a McDonald's fan in the not-so-olden days, you will recognize Grimace, together with Ronald McDonald, Birdie and Hamburglar. Nowadays you hardly see this gang of four except for the flaming red hair, whose presence can be found seated outside every McDonalds outlet.

Grimace is my loyal friend, silent supporter and comfort object. I don't know what is it about this purple glob with a red cap that captured my young heart, but I was strangely endeared to it and therefore Grimace was given special status among all the other soft toys.

Grimace is small (no bigger than my palm), squishy, and has a small dent in his stomach because I used to hold him there and watch his legs dangle. He used to live in a cap filled with tissue, but now he has better sleeping quarters made out of a box. He had his own book, his own pillow, his own spectacles, his own clothes (still has them, btw).

For the longest time I issued a female gender to Grimace. Little girls gravitate towards "female" objects, maybe? Haha. Now I accept that he's more or less male. I mean he's purple, he wears a cap, he has a gruffy speaking voice in advertisements, and he doesn't look distinctly female to me. Maybe he's gay (since he's purple)! But let's not go into that. So disturbing okay haha.

Sometimes my uncles and aunty (who bought me Grimace!) will comment "Still playing with that?" when they see him sitting serenely on my table. (For the record, I don't play with him anymore -- he just sits on my table and keeps me company.) My uncle even bought me other Grimaces because he thought I liked them.

My small collection of Grimaces

But I don't like ALL Grimaces, I only like that particular Grimace with a red cap (doesn't look so bald).

Grimace is getting old. I think he should be about 10 or 11 years old by now, which is quite old for someone of his species I think. Grimace even has liver spots.

No actually, I think Grimace just hasn't had a bath for a very long time. Goodness knows how many dust mites there are in him.

Muack muack! I love Grimace!!! :)

Happy Mooncake Day Mid-Autumn Festival! :)

Recently I got hooked onto Bejeweled2. If I have any spare moment online you will most probably find me playing Bejeweled. Darn sad, I know. But I like the boom! sound it makes when I create power gems and hyper cubes and they all explode together. The more the merrier, the louder the boom! I feel very 爽 when I hear the boom!

It so happens that today me and my mom were working together at the clinic. On the way home from work, my mother tried to strike up a conversation with me about my university friends, or rather, the lack of them. Darn sad, I know. I already had this conversation with her once before, patiently explaining to her that I only know people by sight, everyone is just simply another student among the thousands, and I only see my tutorial mates for 2 hours every fortnight. It's not like the good old days of JC and Secondary school where I'm plonked into a fixed class and I see the same people day in day out.

Mom thinks that because there are so many people in university, I should have many many many friends! But your daughter is no social butterfly. Darn sad, I know. And I have my suspicions to what this conversation is leading to.

Some random discussions with my friends led to the conclusion that Arts students generally suffer from this condition more than students from other faculties. Some are just plain unhappy. Some just can't be bothered. Some live in the halls, so they're not counted.

All this while, as my mom tried to probe into my life, I thought of the talk I had this afternoon on a bench in a shopping mall. Yes, I went KTVing with my JC friends; no, I didn't pay more than $10 for 2.5hrs of singing; yes, there are so-so-so and so-so-so in my group of friends; no, 我跟在大学认识的朋友都不熟。 These answers seem to satisfy her.

Who needs a number to tell you that you've grown wiser and older?

Yesterday while running for the bus, I realized with great trepidation that I am severely unfit.
I barely ran 50 metres and I am already panting like a dog. So horrible right.

Obviously swimming doesn't really result in an overall increase in your level of fitness and stamina (and a decrease in the amount of flab), because even though I can still deal with 10 laps before the panting kicks in, I can't say the same for running!

In the distant past when I was still clad in school attire, I could do the Run For The Bus As Though Your Life Depended On It sprint. Yeah no problemo! Easy peasy lemon squeezy. That was my idea of exercise anyway. And it's not that hard to do the RFTBATYLDOI sprint (wah long acronym) when you are late for school for the 5th consecutive day and your teacher is looking damn buay song.

Once I ran from one bus stop to another and when I finally boarded the bus trying not to look as though I was hyperventilating, I realized that the centre pleat of my skirt was facing west. Hahaha. So that means that during the course of running, my skirt turned 90 degrees anticlockwise! So embarassing okay, everyone on the bus probably thought I didn't know how to wear my school skirt properly. Then I had to discreetly adjust the pleat to face north. To this date I can't figure out how it turned hahahaha.

Yah so back to being unfit. Not only just running for the bus, every time after I climb 2 flights of steps my thighs and calves will be screaming at me and I will be huffing and puffing, trying to heave myself up or else I will be late for lecture/tutorial/etc. And NUS has ALOT of steps because it's built on bloody uneven land (like SN... like NJ... why are all the schools I go to built on a freaking hill?!) so everytime I appear in class with messy hair, red-faced, sweaty (especially if Mr. Sun's feeling particularly bright and cheery) and short of breath. So unglam. Curses!

So I started thinking, maybe I should incorporate some jogging into my lifestyle. Even though I hate running (except after buses. Buses and me, we have some kind of personal vendetta), maybe I should go trot around the track (start with trotting first, I don't think I can deal with a full-fledged jog at this level of unfitness) whenever I can.

Yeah sounds great to me! I should really really implement it. The last time I went jogging was about one year ago I think.

Now seriously seriously seriously. In all seriousness...

Aw shucks! Forget it. I'll never be able to instill such discipline in myself. Frankly I never understood how some people can go to the gym like 5 days a week to work out. That is so boring!

Synthetic Immediate Yelling Individual, hahahaha!

You are a BLOG!
Oh, most superior one. Those insignificant
livejournal and myspace people can't compare to
you. You have the HTML skillz. Too bad you have
no social skills whatsoever. If you were half
as successful and talented as you were online,
your parents would pretend they know you.
Which pathetic internet craze are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Haven't done these sort of quizes for quite some time...

Oh! And I ate tao huey at the tao huey stall outside SN today! And I felt so old and dignified. Hahahahaha.
FEED ME ORANGE BOWL SOMEBODY!!!!

And I also passed my Final Theory Test! :)
Don't learn from me because I only read the book half an hour before the test started. Hahahaha. :D

I am getting all warm and fuzzy and smiling happily at the screen while reading AKK's blog (visit her blog at akkueh.blogspot.com). I visited her blog once for the "jit ba ban" song before The Sunday Times featured her blog and I think my singing voice is more horrible than hers hahaha but that's not the point. The point is, being the voyeuristic person I am, I prowled through her archives and even though I don't even know who she is, I feel so damn happy for her can! Because because because! They way she got together with her ex-swimmer boyfriend is so sweet!!! *melts* OMG! Do such romantic fairy tales exist in this day and age? I thought only romance novels and TV shows have such lovely saccharine stories that causes my sugar level to shoot up.

It's like we readers are sharing her joy and happiness and the growth of her relationship!
I sound rather like a stalker huh. :p

Read the entry about her trying to peek at her boyfriend's washboard abs - it's bloody hilarious!

After watching a little of Pride (the Japanese ice-hockey show that's currently showing on Channel U) I can understand why Xiuhui is so smitten with Takuya Kimura. He makes me want to swoon for reasons unknown to myself!

Anyhow, yay it's the term break!!! :) :) :)
Half a semester's gone just like that.

In the lab again. Bored again. :( Raaarrr!!!

2 more hours!

I had a hilarious afternoon playing with dry ice (damn cheap thrill, we are), sampling that freaking expensive $16 Haagen Daz mooncake (the most expensive mooncake I've ever ingested in my whole life, methinks) and eating eating eating.

The mooncake comes packaged nicely. To justify the $16 you just spent.

Looks like chocolate cake.

Ah, now we see the mango sorbet! Which is incidentally, DAMN NICE!!!

We discovered a pack of dry ice and started to play with it. Bored people do bored things. Hurhurhur. :) You can't see the CO2 clearly in this pic.
I think the patrons of the Taka food court thought we were bonkers.

Add some water, and the dry ice sublimates!!! Wheeee! Exciting man.
See the smoke!!!

Our lame attempt at trapping the smoke. Hahahahaha. It's freaking hilarious :)

By right, this $16 mooncake shouldn't be called a mooncake because it tastes nothing like a mooncake and it only looks like a mooncake. It's just ICE CREAM. We bought the macadamia nut flavour so it's just macadamia nut ice cream with a layer of chocolate. Like those with a vanilla ice cream centre and a coat of chocolate on the outside. But I like the mango sorbet. Yum!

A once-in-a-year indulgence. Yummm...
Probably won't try it again next year. I have my sights set on the $80 for 3 Premium Liqueur Ice Cream Mooncake, heh heh heh.

I got an email saying something about a t-shirt design for NTS and I have to submit it by 14th Sept. Huh? Huh?! Since when did I volunteer myself for t-shirt designing? Or is this some kind of mandatory thing where everyone is expected to submit something? I know NUTS about designing. I can't draw! I have zilch creativity!

And tomorrow I have a four-hour break. *groan*
There's nothing to do!!!
Of course, I could lug my heavy textbooks and read them in the library... but do I want to lug the texts all the way to school? No.
Think I'll just read the trashy book I borrowed, sleep, and study for my Final Theory Test this Friday.

Ulcers! Ow! Ow! Ow!!!

(I want the i-pod Nano!)

In the computer lab (again).

Seems to me that I spend more time rotting in school than attending lessons.

I want to go Bangkok to shop!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

On Saturday we had lunch at The Rice Table. Then we visited the mooncake fair and I spent most of my time dodging and squeezing. Through the throngs of people, I mean. Then we went to walk about and I bought nice button retro earrings.
And I love my retro earrings! :)

The end.

I want to eat this!!!!

*salivates*

Haagen Daz's Ice Cream mooncake! $16 per piece! It's freaking expensive! But I still want to eat it!!!

And we've got a new layout! Rather sterile and boring though. Haha.

After the terrible, terrible night trying to make sense of boring articles and journals, it was no surprise that I overslept and was late for the KTV session with Yanz and Xiuhui. But it was fun! Too many loud songs a voiceless Si Yi makes. And haha we sure entertained ourselves and the K-box staff outside. Strepsils, my good friend! I cometh!

Photos not available because all incriminating evidence should not be published. :D

And I really hope this will not degenerate into a once-a-year affair... even though sometimes the lesser the time you get to spend with others, the more enjoyable and precious it will seem to be.

Yay, yay! Finished up my part for the Jap studies project after dozing off for an hour or so in between typing, enduring my little sister's sleep-screeching and running to my bed.

How to wake up tomorrow?! Die man.

Anyhow, I just realized that today's quite a "good" day to get married! Hahaha. Okay irrelavant.

Hidey-ho! I'm at the computer labs whiling the hours away. One and a half more hours to the NTS meeting at 6pm. So bored, there's nothing to do in school. Should have brought a book or something to read. :(

The MSN web messenger doesn't seem to work with the school computers.

Got a lot of wrong characters I think. Haha yes I know I am damn lousy. Let's have more fun with Chinese since I'm so bloody bored and I have nothing to do!

(Hopefully I can waste one whole hour typing Chinese characters.)

这世界多可爱充满欢笑和乐趣
让我们在一起开开心心的相聚
夏日里的笑声我们不怕风风雨雨
以后的彩虹将会更美丽!

Cookie points for those who managed to guess this song. :D

The above has shown that even though my 唐诗 cannot make it, I am still in touch with my Chinese through stupid songs!!! For that, I have KTV to thank. Hahaha.

Wah it's only 5.05pm... more stupid Chinese songs! (takes me a greater effort and a longer time to type Chinese lah.)

Heh heh... you've seen this coming.

半夜睡不着觉 把心情哼成歌 只好到屋顶找另一个梦境

10 mins to type that. Blogging can really waste a lot of time!

Now I'm hungry and bored. 6pm, come quickly!!!

I am so sleepy.

My punctual eggs are going mad. Hmmm, maybe it's because of the jabs? (Re: keloids)
But I know I have it good compared to other people. That is why I appreciate my eggs for being punctual and not giving me much trouble, except for the occassional stomach cramp, the added grumpiness and the overwhelming need to sleep at inappropriate times. But then again, I always have an overwhelming need to sleep all the time, eggs effect or not.

I have a project that I know nuts about, I don't know how to use the school's library catalogue, I'm lagging behind my work and the growing pile of readings, and I have just been informed that my Pri 6 cousin whom I am tutoring on-off failed her Maths prelims, and barely managed to pass her English. No no no I am not stressed, I am still taking life easy. Easy peasy lemon squeezy, or so my little sis would say.

Haha I love that. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!!! LOL. :)

"Finity" also makes me want to laugh like a maniac. LOL. According to my little sis, "finity" is the very very last number of the whole number system. It has many many many zeros. But somehow there is "finity and one", "finity and two", "finity and three" etc.

I just managed to snag a much coveted 10.30am slot for tomorrow! Yay!!!
Happy!
But still sleepy.

This is crazy man, i-Weekly seems to be completely sold out. I went to three different stores/mama shops last night and couldn't find a single copy left. Even the mama shop at the LRT station has no more copies! Who thinks it's because of the Superstar cover story?

Anybody has i-Weekly? Lend me please?

In my thirst for more Superstar news, I bought 8 Days, Wanbao and some i-Weekly 特报 since I couldn't get the real thing. Some Kelly fans said they didn't vote like madmen during the finals so that Kelly can get the Universal Music contract instead of the Play Music contract. Hahaha. Actually it didn't make much sense to me, Universal Music should be the better recording company right? So how come they're signing the runner-up instead of the winner?

And I am actually reading Chinese newspapers! Wow!!! :D

I also voted for the first time ever since this Superstar competition started. But sadly Kelly did not win. I thought the vote margin would be smaller, like maybe 48% and 52%, but surprisingly it's 36% and 64%! Woah, it just shows how many fans Weilian has, even though I get the impression that most are over-protective aunties who would call in to radio stations and write to newspapers to complain once they spot a any slight disadvantage that he faced during the grand finals.

Okay and this I must blog about. The duet (屋顶! THE song for all harmonizing wannabes) that Junyang and Xinhui sang together was damn nice can! OMG. *eyes glazes over*

Move over, Candyce. I say Junyang and Xinhui have terrific chemistry! And they look good together! *eyes glazes over again*
我们有同样的默契!!!

Must! Practice! Hard! (because I am also a harmonizing wannabe.)

Me and my sis discovered a microphone lurking around at home and had some fun with psuedo-karaoking! Woot! :D

Also, President Nathan was sworn in, and New Orleans was left devastated by Hurricane Katrina. More Superstar franchise coming up, what with Star Idol and Campus Superstar, and I'm off to download more clips! Tootles.
